I'm not a 'fan' of scout scope setups. Scopes with low magnification and a larger than average Field of View are on my 'big' bores. I like the 60ft plus, Field of View the Diamondback scopes have on my Marlins.
IMO, this is a close range firearm, where I hunt with the 45-70, my shots are 75yds or less.
I have a
Vortex Diamondback 1.75-5*32 BDC on my 1895GBL 45-70. Scope, rings* & rail would be just over $500+tax.
IMO, the Diamondback has better specs for my use when compared to the aforementioned
Leupold 2.5 Ultralight - FOV @ 39.5ft & Parallax set at 150yds, to the Vortex - FOV @ 68.3ft & Parallax set at 100yds.
Before someone squawks 'not enough eye relief', the Vortex has a 3.5" eye relief, I shoot some hefty loads -300gn HP Sierras over 55gn H4198 @ 2150fps, Hodgdon 2020 Annual Data - page 140 - 45-70 Lever Action's. The scope has not touched my prescription eye wear.
'If' I was buying again, for the extra FOV, I would put a
Vortex Crossfire 1-4*24 V-Brite on the 1895GBL. It has a 30mm tube, uncluttered reticule, 96ft FOV, 4" eye relief and a 1.5MOA @4X red dot for low light conditions.
*Note, those steel rings are chewing up that aluminum base because of the heavy recoil. Got to change out the aluminum bases on my 'big' bores with steel ones this winter.
