Putting together an AR

+1 for the Spikes Tactical lowers (I've got the billet upper/lower Biohazard set w/colour fill). Fit/finish are excellent. Highly recommend. Now with that said...I'm really liking the Cadex AR10 lower that One Shot is selling...always wanted to do an AR10 build...must...not...look...at...website...;)

it would be this one? https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=1217&bc=no
How much more $ for the color filling? Also im not sure where exacly the INFIDEL engraving was on this lower? I am trying to spot it with no luck, unless that is custom work that they do?

I will certainly keep the DLASK info in mind...!

ATRS are very sweet also, a bit pricey like you said but i will certainly read more in depth on their products.

When you said you had a problem with the RRA lower grip but had another one kicking around you mean you had to change the whole grip to something else?

Not the whole grip just the screw.
I think I paid 309 ish for the custom lower.
"Infidel" was on the RT Magwell. I dont think this is being offered anymore as I do not see that option on the Spikes website. Must have been a limited run or something.

Take a look on the AR15 Pictures thread. You can see mind in in the 2nd last page I think or should be close.

Whats the difference between the AR10 & AR15 lowers??
Wow @ the Biohazard set with color!! Where did you land this? Pics are always a plus :D

Customer lower meaning the LPK that you chose + the color fillign of the logo?

AR10's are the big boys (.308/7.62mm)...the biohazard set was a custom order through Questar (they did have it on their website at one point...but not anymore). I used to have a pic up of my build but have since removed it (as I've changed out some of the parts since). She's definitely a sweet rifle (my Vera...if you happen to watch the old Firefly TV series).

When you do custom orders is the option available or you just take the shot at asking something like this to the dealer?

i dont know all the supporting dealers by heart yet :p
The pieces without a price are not in stock?

You bought a stripped lower? Which one did you pick? I am liking the DLASK lower i gotta say :)
going with .308 wouldnt be the most convenient thing to do based on what you are saying. I am just scared of the "bang for your buck" factor on the .223 caliber. Luckily i will be trying the CQM4 this sunday with a friend i met on CGN, i guess i can criticize and go from there.
Thanks for your input

why would 1/8 be more useful? the higher the grain the better distance i get out of it?

lol what did you end up buying?:p

I will check it out! Whats the addy to ATRS? What are the things that you would do differently this time around on your next build? What is the cheap route? Right now i see the LMT going for cheap as a complete shooting system, but i wouldnt learn much on actually "building" although i would be taking it apart and such... hmm tough decision!

1/8 would be good because it is the best compromise between 1/7 and 1/9 and could be used for 55 gr and and a bit heavier where as the 1/7 is made for heavier bullits and like 62gr and up. The only reason why the army uses 1/7 is to stableize the heavy tracer rounds witch think they load them 1 to 4 so for every 1 tracer there are 4 ss109

The options weren't initially available...essentially what I did was look at Spikes website and see how it could be configured from them...then I did some emailing back and forth with Questar to make sure the set was ordered the way I wanted it (of course the options do add to the price).

we have 10.5 ,11.5 and 14.5 inch Gov profile 556 nato chambered barrels in stock.
dealers will have them reasy to ship to you guys on monday.
we are away at the ipsc nationals this week, so little to nothing is shipping this week

what do you guys think about this to start with?
zombiehunterreceiver.jpg

High strength, hammer forged receiver is CNC precision machined and hard coat anodized black for a long lasting, durable finish. Extra reinforcement around the front pivot pin, reinforcing ridge over the buffer tube area and a full fence around the magazine catch button ensure that these lowers are built for a lifetime of heavy-duty use. Laser etched with "zombie hunter" on ejection port side. Finish is not an exact match for the Zombie Hunter stripped upper receiver (wtf) but is a better match to the EGW Flattop Upper Receiver. Limited number available.

what would be a good lpk to go with such a lower?

or whats usually the following steps after the stripped lower?

Is anyone going to have the Daniel Defense cold hammer forged barrels here?

We haven't stopped trying, but it's unlikely.

We might have some US made barrels in the near future but your best bet is either S&J Hardware or NEA.

In these case it doesn't matter who you know, it what US State says yes to.

Daniel Defense. Order one now from us before your #### falls off ;)

DD LPK are nice, that and the armalite units, for me its all in the roll pins.
Its can make an ok job it to an hour long pain in the ass .
There are more costly kits on the market but for a basic lower the DD LPK is the best bang for th buck

is this a s**tty Limited Edition Lower? I think its pretty eye appealing but what do i know (for now hehe)

Its just a housing, but if the dimensions are off, there could be real problems. There are quite a few parts in the lower, flying in close formation.
There are a variety of lower receivers out there. Don't know if tackykewl markings are indicative of quality.....
I've assembled two lowers and five uppers from parts, including four barrels which I have machined, threaded, chambered, etc. Ain't rocket science to put together finished parts. First lower was an Olympic Arms 25 years ago. Nobody likes Olympic, but this one has worked fine for me. Latest lower is a RRA from Questar, its fine too. Buy brand name parts from an established business that stands behind what it sells. Brand X might work out for you, might not. Not all parts are created equal. There is a huge market for AR parts, and some of the stuff on the market isn't good.
Going to tell you - if you buy brand name parts at retail, it is pretty hard to beat the cost of a commercial rifle of comparable quality. If you know what you want though, you can assemble the exact rifle you desire. Don't assume that adding bells, whistles, doodads and bobbleheaded dolls will make a better shooting rifle.

Well said. I will look into the more high end stuff :) I was just talking this over with a buddy of mine. You will have to give me some tips for putting together a quality upper!

Cheers
