Ok, so I'm sort of new to the black rifle thing...been reading like crazy on the forum here trying to soak up as much information as I can. I have an NEA-15 14.5" on order that I'm expecting sometime towards the middle of January, and so I'm attempting to figure out the rest of what I want to put on it in advance and start to gather some of it while I wait.

so, first of is the sights...I don't know a lot about optics...most of my current guns have iron sights...that said I don't know alot about AR BUIS either. I like the look of the magpul stuff, but I keep coming across magpul pts BUIS. To my understanding they are a cheaper version of the real magpul sights for training and simulation..but they won't hold up on real firearms. Is that right? Anyone have any experience using them?

Sort of trying to get my best bang for my buck for now and then up grade down the road as money(which is scarce) comes available.

As far as other optics....(I'll probably stick to the BUIS for a while) I have a cheaper red dot sight I can stick on just to play around with the feel of it, but what is my best option for other optics(I'm probably not going to be shooting out past 100 yards)....and most importantly WHY is that optic best in your opinion?

This may be old hat for some of you guys...I figured there is no such thing as a stupid question and I like to make informed purchases, even if they arn't good ones..I want to know that going in. :D

Thanks all...I'm sure I'll have many more questions later when I get the firearm in my hands.

I've asked the same question of both myself and of CGN.
in terms of optics, head over to the optics section and read kevinb's black rifle optics thread.

The hands down best thing you can do is TRY/ handle several different types of optics.
Some people work really well with aimpoints, others with eotechs, others with 1-4x.
It's easy to get wrapped up in the stats and posts of every Internet commando of every optic, but until you get them out and try them, it's too soon to choose.
Personally, i like the eotech on my field rifles. I find I cannot find the aim point dot fast enough, while the eotech's reticle comes into view much better and quicker. YMMV. BUT I find I like the aimpoint's stats, controls and options better. if you are not going to be running your rifle out to long distances, maybe a 1-4 is a good option.

Plenty of nice, inexpensive and lightweight options for you with clear glass like the Millet DMS, vortex, Leupold and bushnells. on the high end stuff you get towards trijicons, leupolds mk/ar series.

Your plan to stick with BUIS is a good one, shoot shoot shoot until you have a solid idea of what you want. head into the EE to find good cheap BUIS.
There are plenty of very good options for you, I've used the midwest industries a few times, but found I dislike the sight picture and moved straight away to optics.

You'll hear this tossed around on cgn but: buy once, cry once. You can always sell them or trade them later.

hope this helps a little!

Why would you buy Fake magpul... The real BUIS are only 100$ for a set...

I have the fake magpul BUIS on my .22 and im pissed I didnt spend the extra 4 for real ones... So When I got my AR I got real ones right away...
