I'm a little confused about a sticky elsewhere on CGN re: the legality of Gen 2 PVC-5- .50 Beowulf magazines.

These mags can accept more than 10 rds of .223/.5.56mm ammo. Is that a contravention of the law? I've read that owners of .40 handguns can cram more than 10 rds of 9mm into them.

Is this practice legal?

Well the 1st Gen PCV mags were just marked 50 Caliber on them, nothing about it being 50 Beowulf. The 2nd Gen specifically says 50 Beowulf on the side. Though I doubt that they are lic from Alexander Arms who owns the patent to the 50 Beowulf.

Thanks. I've printed off a copy that I'll carry along with my AR 15. I cannot conceive of the average LEO having an inkling about the actual regs. This really illustrates that no one gave much thought to the logic behind the magazine capacity laws.
In the event this oversight is addressed retroactively (they wouldn't do that, would they .....?) there will a lot of 'lost/missing' magazines.

It's a step in the right direction, even it if is a loophole. I've owned two Gen 2 PCV .50 Beowulf mags but sold them for the (pricier) Alexander Arms Beowulf mags. I prefer the full-bodied magazine, but that's just preference. Both are perfectly legal.

Sorry to bore you. Thanks for your contribution.
I wouldn't say it bore me, just confused me. You've been around for a while so I just wonder how you didn't know how the regulations towards magazine restrictions worked. I guess my double face palm contribution was a bit too much for your liking. So.....

Sure, I've been around for a while, but only been an AR 15 owner/shooter for one year. I shoot 1911's, so mag capacity has never been an issue with me. But true to form, ask an intelligent question on CGN, you can count on a know-it-all to interject with a sarcastic remark.

Again, thanks for your input.

The licensing issue is the reason I do not own any. I am just to leery...and yes I know the regs. LAR-15 mags only for me.

And FFS, don't get the PCV ones! Not sure which gen..I have one and it's only half a year old and barely used. The lips have opened up and I have to jam and slam to get it into the mag well! I think if I dropped the mag, .223s will be flying all over the place!
Garbage!
