PVC-50 (Gen2) Magazines

aren't most hunting regs 3 rounds?

just spent last 1/2 hour going through the sask hunting act and the 2014 hunting guide
and no mention of rifle rounds only shotgun(no more than two in a magazine)
so fired off email to the government, will post back when i get a reasonable response.

I used mine this weekend for the first time. Loaded 15 each in 4 mags. Used in a DD M4 v7. They fit tight due to slight warping of the lips with 15 rnds. They need a good whack to seat on a closed bolt but feed OK and drop when empty. All in all no major issues.

Sounds much like how Gen 1 worked. Don't leave them loaded, either. Tends to push the lips outward.

What about having 14 rounds in the mag and
Out in the bush hunting beavers, coyotee and wild
Pigs here in sask?
Is that legal?

Coyotes and wild pigs are not regulated under the hunting act in southern Sask..they are varmints. Its like shooting gophers..you aren't limited to only 3 rounds. Its also illegal to hunt game with an FMJ but because coyotes do not fall in the hunting regs you can use em, though not very effective.

To be honest I bet most LEO's, especially CO's would confiscate your rifle and mags if they saw a Beowulf mag or even an LAR15 mag. 99% of them have no clue on firearm laws, they confiscate your private property and throw you in jail then they let the courts decide. Its already happened to a CGN'er

That being said I own 2 :)

I tried a couple on my DPMS Oracle on Sunday - had to tilt the a tiny bit sideways to get the mag into the magwell as the did bulge just a bit with 14 rounds in. Otherwise, no issues, cept that it's an easy way to make lots of empty cases... (thank gawd for reloading).

i have just modded my SL8 to take this mag and the LAR pistol mag
in practice they work but i am unable to leave the house to actually try them
with live rounds

i have just contacted a CO concerning the legal limit of hunting varmints here in sask with a semi auto
centre fire asking him what the law is.....here is his reply
This is a Government of Canada rule, and for center fire rifles, semi automatic, it says you can only have a 5 round magazine.

sooooo, would i be correct now in saying the RCMP bulletin 72 would/should allow hunting with the beowulf/LAR pistol mag

I know here it do not state in the hunting regs , any limit in the semi, and the answere I got was that the lar mags are good to go. Never inquired about the Beo though.what does it say in your hunting regs?

i asked a CO compliance officer and what i quoted above was his reply for beavers, coyotees and wild pigs.
game is different and wasnt enquiring about that as we are using 223 rounds.
i am in sask just to make things clearer as i am not aware of hunting regs in any other province.

but i have just had this email reply off another CO (i was bored today and emailed several offices to see if there was any different point of views)
i asked was there a limit to how many rounds in a mag when hunting coyotee, beaver or pigs
conservation officer said, "The answer is that there are no “number of bullet restrictions” for the species he lists. There are however federal firearm restrictions that prohibit magazines containing more than 5 rounds in a semi-auto center fire rifle. "

So anyone using them for the intended purpose care to chime in?

I bought several of the Gen 1 for the intended purpose. When loaded with the prescribed 5 rounds of .50Beo, I found that they had a tendency to volcano all the rounds right out the top. I wasn't entirely pleased.

EDIT: Although I'm not wild about posting a negative review on an item made in ??? and marketed in Canada, I owe it to the enquirer to answer. They function as intended, just not as well as other manufacturers.

They are a 2$ piece of plastic that was rushed to the market to exploit another manufacturers hard work at bringing a new caliber to the market while being ridiculously overpriced.

I had a chance to handle some and was not impressed.
