I just put an end cap on the bottom of the 45 and drilled a bunch of 1/4 inch holes to let any rain out if it does get wet. The grain won't last long once the birds and squirrels get at it so it doesn't have time to go rotten.

I'm going to have to build a bunch of these. The look slick as hell. The video of the coon and the deer was great .

I have a deer feeder idea that works and is better than a pvc feeder. Buy a homepot 5 gallon bucket with a top. Buy a toilet bowl plunger and drill a hole in the bucket. Put the plastic end in the top and have the stick end sticking out. Turn the bucket upside down and hang it on a tree. The deer will hit the stick and feed will come out. Works like a charm and costs 10 bucks to make with a dollar store plunger. The pvc feeders work but the squireels and coon clean it out. I have three built last year.

you have an idea or did you actually tried it?? a 5gallons of feed isn't exactly feather waight, it will require some serious pressuer to move the plunger out of the way so the deer can feed, not to mention they have to be first 'educated' on the works of it

They do work well at attacking all sorts of animals to them here are a few pic's of one of mine in action. Problem this year is the new "neighbor" seems to have scared off most of the locals.

I have about 200 pictures of this guy coming day and night to fill up and checking to see if I had refilled it.

My buddy at deer camp has been filling one up steady for the past week, seems to empty overnight.
He got all excited and placed a gamecam facing the feeder, next day he checked the pics only to find
140 pictures of Blue Jays and no deer.

I never thought it was possible for over 12 lbs of whole corn to be devoured like that so quickly but pics don't lie.

I have one up and its full of water hahaha havent filled it in over 2 months hahaha I may remnove it tomorrow and put it near the blind. Coons get to it though

I just made one of these today. Total cost for the feeder was just under $50. 25kg bag of deer feed from the local feed supply company was $13.00 plus tax. I made mine out of 4" PVC, 6' tall. I just zap strapped it to a tree, with my game camera set up covering it. I'll probably go check it out on Wednesday or Thursday.

Saw these in use down in Arkansas...just straight 6 or 8 " abs pipe wired to a tree..No angle pipe..just straight to the ground. Deer and turkeys paw and scratch at the bottom and it self feeds. I think the grain or corn would run to fast if you didnt butt it to the ground. also, the ones I saw just had a rock on top. The bonus is down there..they have "deer corn" at the feed stores..its kernel corn that has been washed in molases...the critters love it

Tsc stores carry deer corn... It's about 14 bucks. For a 60 pound bag...

I made a feeder a few years ago from a 6" PVC pipe . I jig sawed two slots about 2" apart and 2" long on the bottom . I then heated the resulting tab where it was still attached to the pipe with a propane torch and bent the tab into the pipe....holding it perpendicular to the pipe until the plastic hardened .The tab helps keep the grain(we use oats) from flowing too fast .
The pipe is placed into a shallow plywood and 2x4 box (with drain holes) tied to a tree....no fuss no muss .
I cover the top with a small snug fitting plastic pail .
It takes the deer all night to empty this setup .
We have another feeder using a 45 gallon steel drum with 4 holes(I blocked off two holes) that the deer empty in 24 hours......guess I will make the holes smaller cuz thats 4 big feed sacks of oats .
We bought 2 bulk bags of oats (approx. 1500 pounds apiece )from a local farmer .
Haven't shot a deer yet ...
