I see that there has been a nice looking BSS Python sitting on the EE for a week now with at least one (maybe two) price reductions.

After watching them fly off of there in a matter of hours or minutes maybe we are finding the price ceiling? ;)

I've seen them on gunbrokers for $2000 up to $20000. Can you get irunguns to import these for $200? I guess your still looking at 3 to 4 g for a nice Python .

yeah IRG, Prophet River and a few others can import for you. Find something nice on gunbroker and bring it over.

I think the "cheaper" Colts $2000-$3500 that are priced well move quickly. I've also sold 3 that moved within minutes. I think just far fewer people in the Canadian market at the $5000 price point for a piece of steel to sit in the safe, even if it is a Python.

The market sets the price. If anything sits, Python or otherwise, it is overpriced. If it flies off the shelf, the price must be good. There are still deals to be had, and then some just sit and sit because they are worth more to the owner than to anybody else. If I can't get what I want for a gun, I don't sell it either. If I can't buy one for the price I want, I don't buy. Pretty simple formula really, and I don't get all caught up in the 'MUST have one NOW!' mentality. I waited 3 years for a particular Python to turn up at a price I could bear, and am completely happy with the wait and the end product. I don't expect that there is any hard ceiling on Python prices, there will always be those who must have one, and will pay for it.

The recent spike was driven by a small cohort of buyers willing to pay american prices in a market that arguably doesn't command them or can't sustain them.

That may have something to do with it.

Now, looking at it from a perspective of someone who has Pythons, if I wanted to sell today I'd probably export them to the US. You get a better price, the exchange rate plays to my favor, and I will come out further ahead, even taking in to consideration export fees. If Python owners in general feel this way, the number of Pythons in Canada will decrease, and for those who really want one down the road.....there will be a premium to be paid. Any way you slice it, they may look overpriced now, but I don't see the prices going down. Having said that, I am talking about current 'fair market prices', as opposed to those optimistically hoping to cash in on a craze by posting at prices that are somewhat...inflated.

Anyone who bought a while ago will still make out like a bandit. If you paid a premium recently, probably best to look at it as a long term investment. How knows, maybe they will continue to sky rocket, but I'll be interested to see how the prices change over the next few years when the walking dead craze settles down.

Main character in walking dead carries one, that accounts for a good spike in the price also. Happens everytime some movie or show gets popular, Mini 14 with folding stock, garands, pythons, etc.

She is a beauty ! I had one of these in the 80's, wish I had known then what I know now lol I think I paid way under a grand back then, mind you it wouldn't be for sale now. I would use it infrequently just to keep 'er working.
$ 5200.00 will buy a lot of other "fun" toys though....... :)
I wish Colt would produce a python again, in Nickel, there seems to be enough interest, if they produced them in the SAME quality as the '80's , priced them reasonably $ 1,300.00 to $ 1,800.00 ?? I'd be in.

The Calgary Shooting Centre just sold a very nice Nickel 6 with box for 1800. Didn't last long at that price.

I saw that one two minutes after it was posted and it was very hard for me to resist urge to buy it. Had to keep reminding myself that I have one that I hardly get enough trigger time with.
I'm not big on buying guns as investments :)

I think people who buy these guns are going to get a big surprise oneday. I have seen this kind of thing before many times. The guns will come back down to what they should be and not the stupid inflated prices that people are paying.

But it is there money so they can do what they want with it I guess. Someone once said a fool and money are soon parted.

Just my two cents worth.

Are these crazy prices really due to Rick Grimes? If so, the bottom will drop out eventually.

I had a nickel 6" 30 yrs ago, so I've always kept an eye since selling mine years 25 years ago, I don't really believe the Rick Grimes thing, they've been EXPENSIVE for a lot longer than the Walking Dead has been around. I think that the nice ones are becoming fewer and far between, hence the people trying to sell for super inflated prices, can't really blame them, if someone has a bag of loot and five grand is a drop in the bucket, what the heck, the seller just has to hold out for one of those buyers.

Unless the clones say "Colt" they'll always be..... clones. It's no fun at the range ..... "wow is that a Python !! ??", "no it's just like it though"

^ This

If you buy a Python clone because you think it's a neat gun in and of itself and just because you want one.....fine. Otherwise, I think you'd just be fooling yourself.

I like revolvers so I may well buy one of the Pietta clones when they arrive.....just because it's something different. I bought an Alfa for that reason....heck if Sig or Beretta or FN came out with a revolver I'd probably buy one of those too.

There may be a pause on some of the higher end variants but I have yet to see a quality handgun of any kind cheaper today than
a past "Peak" price. Pythons will continue going up until Colt reissues them. That's not on the horizon. I thought I over paid for a minty 8"
just a couple of years ago. It was from a fellow CGN'r. 2300.00 . I'll take a few more at that price.
