Hi,

I just bought a blue Python. It come with a rubber grip. I am thinking should I get a wood grip? Somehow I always have the impression a Python should have a wood grip.

Anyone know where I can get a Colt original wood grip in condition?

Thanks.

First rule is whatever fits best in your hand.
That being said, I use wood.
The original grips sell for exorbitant pirces on the various auction boards.
However, you can get a decent set of python elite grps directly from Colt for about $70.

For me I prefer shooting revolvers with rubber grips (Hogue or Pachmayr) as they help 'soak up recoil' but I agree that they look better with wood.

Factory wood

The Colt Python factory wood looks terrific, but for me, it was the reason to fire it less. The wood was just too big and the factory checkering bit right into my hand.
I opted for Pachmayer grips but the fit didn't work either.
Now I have a pair of Hogue grips that make the trigger a little closer.
Rubber is the way to go.
70.00 for factory wood is outrageous.

If you have a Python you have to get walnut target grips, it's the rule. Shoot with whatever you want but your baby deserves the best for dress up. Find the year of manufacture because you are looking at three types depending on the era your Python was born in. There is a dedicated forum site for Colt and specifically Python information called coltforum.com. Look under "Colt Revolvers". A lot of threads have to do with Python grips and describe the right ones for each year as well as how to tell real from fake.

They have an EE which is where I found a set of brand new old stock target grips for my 1992 Python. I paid $200 and it wasn't out of line.

$200 for original Colt grips???
+1 for rubber grips if you want to shoot your python.
If it's a safe queen then put the original wooden ones on it, because that is part of the python "look".
I tried shooting mine with the wooden ones and it was extremely uncomfortable.

"...the "bag-o-grips" in my cupboard worth something..." It's amazing how all that stuff becomes like money in the bank. Even moreso for milsurp accessories. The sad part will be having to sell my toys to have a retirement fund.
There are all kinds of aftermarket grips available. Have a look at Herrett grips. You can even have made-to-order grips for your Python. Starting at $98US. Add the W's. .herrett-stocks.com/index-2.html

Rubber for shootin' and wood for lookin' but I'm going to try some Hogue or Herrett wood grips on one of my revolvers. Maybe I can get the best of both:confused:

I never liked the Hogue or Pachmyr on mine, so the latest try is a set of Herrett smooth target grips. Pretty wood, and they feel great. Here's hoping they work magic at the range...

Numrich has factory grips for $45.00 bought a set and they are excellent, I find them nice to shoot as long as your not using suped up loads.
