Pythons - made of gold?

You're right, :)it is good. Yours brought to mind an item I have in my gun safe that I have;) 'almost' forgotten about.

An early flat loading gate model Ruger Single Six.

Sorry:redface:. Didn't mean to hijack the thread:redface:.

Very sweet. Looks like about 1956 and close to mint. The pic of the moose is very familiar. Did you either sell or buy an old flat top with bone/antler grips quite a while back?
Mike

The serial number dates it at about 1954, and yes, it is near mint. I have the parts manual with it, and the box which was in pretty rough shape. The previous owner did a duct tape number on it.
And yes, I have an old flattop 44. It's a good shooter and its been 'diddled' a little with a trigger pull that matches breaking glass like let off of a S&W on single action. The trigger/hammer set-up came from a Super Blackhawk or so I was told.

Oh, the grips grips appear to be Ruger factory stag horn and appear to be authentic.

Hijacking it back!!!

Ok now we've started a Python parade? One of mine now sold
IMGP7126.jpg

Mr. Peterson has the oldest here with the nice 1st Gen 6" blue with what I think are the nicest looking stocks but they re all beautiful. Did you know that the 1st Gen had a hollow underlug? Look in where the cylinder latch release is.... :)

:)Yes.

I've just recently sold mine as well.

Wondering if we're at a Python price bubble or will we actually see a 10,000.00 asking price next year. My folks south of the border tell me
not to expect prices to drop. Hey I was waiting for house prices to drop in TO the last 2 years, and go figure. Last time I spoke to Colt they said that
they aren't bringing back the Python cause they would have to sell'em at 3000.00. I don't think they would have any problem at that price or even 3500.00
today. Think what that would do to the market. Anyway I'm holding on to mine for now. What do you guys think the next sleepers to break out are.

Hello Gravel. IMHO I do believe that the next snake line to break out will be the King Cobras. I will give you a few examples. A Colt Custom Cobra 6 " as new or NIB complete with the original grips ( wooden grips with the cobra head medallions ) these have increased by 25-30% from last year. We will not mention the 4 inch Custom KC value. These increases are not only being felt in the USA for these rare snakes but up here as well. The 6 " enhanced versions have also increased here as well but still are undervalued.

Now the 8 " KC, well that's about as rare as hens teeth especially in Canada. In the USA they are rare to find and have increased so far this year by 35% . These examples that I have mentioned are as new in box or unfired/NIB. The top end KC'S will increase with decent returns. A 6 " BSTS KC enhanced or standard model are relatively undervalued both in the USA & Canada. The Blued KC'S are rare as well both in the USA and up here.

These examples that I have explained pertain mostly to the LNIB or NIB versions, complete with the correct end labels, box & paper work. I have many friends in the USA that are top quality Colt collectors and dealers. I was in the New England region USA a few months ago on business & courses and have visited with some of these folks. These top snake gun collectors are also selling more and more to us here in Canada, and yes even with a lower CDN $. High end KC'S will bring a good return vs a shooter as always and others. I do know IMHO where they are not going, just my 2 cents for now.

Thanks Chris, good info. Surprised that Swiss 210's haven't moved much. I know they are still coming out of Germany, but still not the same.
That Trooper 111 that was on the EE a while back at I think 950.00 is starting to look like a bargain the way things are going. I go back away's
and I have put together an "Eclectic" mix of pieces in my collection so I pick up items that I don't see around much (Astra Falcon!). I have quite a few Colts
by now almost all of which I don't shoot. It's nice to see that they are going up in value but I can't recall a run up on prices like I've seen with Pythons. Pre 64 Winnies
are plentiful and not too pricey in relation. Maybe That's one direction. I've got a National Match series 70 (Boxed, tool, paperwork...) that I don't see selling in the stratosphere.
Maybe that's another one that'll take off. Anyway..

Very good points gravel. Thank you for the reply best regards.

I don't know about the king cobras. No doubt their value will increase in proportion to the Python but I think they are overvalued because many associate them too closely with the pythons. in reality they are not in the same league in terms of tune - these sold for half the price of a python when new. Granted that doesn't mean they are half the gun (there are a number of reasons for such different price points), but to me they will always be a distant runner up, and not worth the close-to-python prices that many seek. I think the anaconda, which is basically a 44 king cobra, is more interesting because of the calibre, but for 357, unless I was after a full snake / colt revolver collection, I'd bypass the king cobra entirely.

" I'd bypass the King cobra entirely " thanks gdawg. So if you manage to ever come across a LNIB or NIB 8 inch KC please, please pass the seller onto me, I would greatly appreciate this. I will PM you my phone number.

Well let me throw in my 2c. Colt model 3-5-7 is the sleeper. Same internals and stocks as the Python. Shoot them side by side and see what I mean. I do however love my cold looking BSTS KC!
