I enjoy my .22 GSG1911 a lot - but the sights could be improved upon. The gun is certainly worth every penny but those plastic sights are something else...

The gun comes with 3 front sights, and has the medium one installed. It was shooting at 2pm with that while aiming at 6 o'clock. I replaced it with the tall one - and now it shoots at 5pm while aiming at the center.

Considering costs, what would be the cheapest FO front/ adjustable rear combination that would fit this gun AND could be installed by a layman? TIA.

P.S. For those swapping the front sights on their GSG - the sight is plastic so when you have the urge to tighten the setscrew, my advise is: don't. G: You'll strip the tread like I did. The sight is tight enough to stay in place without the setscrew, there's no recoil to speak of.

Good question as I have one coming to me soon and & right handed but left eye dominant . I am hoping that the dovetails in the slide are standard for a 1911 in which case any 1911 sights will fit.

I did a bit more reading: looks like the GSG sights are Novak low-profile. The cheapest I've found so far are "Springfield Armory Adjustable Rear Sight 1911 Novak Cut Steel Blue" for $43.49US from MidwayUSA. No idea what height FO front sight would work with these, need to look up SA specs I guess.

Still no luck trying to figure out the front sights. There is a bunch of Novak-style FO front sights of varying height, like .160" .170" etc. How would I know what height to pick? Does it even matter with adjustable rear sights? TIA.

Does it even matter with adjustable rear sights?

If the rear sight is adjustable for elevation, then the height of the front sight is not overly important since the rear sight can be moved up or down to compensate.
Also, when I have had a choice, I have gone for a higher front sight as it can be filed down if it is too high. Hard to make a too small sight higher though.

If you find a fiber optic front sight I'd love to know about it. I agree it would be a nice addition. But even the rears I'd love to hear how the review on the new rear sights.

I have been thinking about buying a GSG 1911 also. Do any of you know how many of the parts in these pistols can be changed for better stuff? Say trigger assembly, hammer ect. Ambi safety for us gifted lefty's.

Got this off another site that claimed this came right from an ATI reps mouth:

Barrel Bushing
Front & Rear Site
Hammer
Trigger
Grip Safety
the Whole Main Spring Housing
Thumb Safety
Sear
Disconnector
Sear Spring
Grip Panels (but not the screws because they're in metric)
Mag Release
Sear Pin
Hammer Pin
Plunger Tube
Plunger Spring

I remember BlueLine made a comment that you can drop in the GSG slide into another 1911 frame. Well, I tried. There's no way. The enormous dead-weight at the end of the guide rod would never clear the frame.

Back to the sight business: I readjusted mine a week ago and they seem to be fine now. I also stopped using underpowered ammo. Just put another 350 rounds of High Velocity through it yesterday, very accurate and not a single FTF.

LOL. I was just doing a little more research on the pistol before i checked back to CGN and found that out. The GSG 1911 sounds like a good buy,and is getting good reviews by fellow shooters.Ive been tossed up on what new .22 pistol to buy,but i am going to go with the GSG.
