Trying out some loads for the 223rem the Hornady manual suggested a COL of 2.250” for 55g V-max. I measure and averaged 2.388” on the gauge with these bullets. The rifle is a Stevens with a 1:9 twist.

What usually gives more accuracy putting it at the lands or having a little bit of a jump?

Would there be enough neck tension to hold the bullet without crimping if I went with 2.388”?

Thanks in advance guys any advice appreciated.

Each barrel is different with what it likes for each bullet. While one rifle may like .040" jump with one bullet, it may like another bullet touching the lands to make it shoot more accurately.
If you can't pull the bullet out with your fingers, I would say you have enough neck tension.
