Q: convert 5" XD9 to 4" slide with 5" barrel and compensator?

I'm on a bit of a compensator kick right now;

Is it possible to swap some parts and turn a 5" XD9 model into a slightly different beast? It seems pretty modular, and I like that. So can you keep the 5" 'tactical' barrel, but a 4" guide rod and 'service' slide? Then thread the barrel and put a compensator on it?
 
To do what you suggest, I'd contact Springfield Armory and ask if the custom shop can make you a 4" service model with a 5" ported barrel. Maybe get it imported through Questar? I fear something like that would cost you big money though.
 
Thanks Scotty. But I remember before Customs changed their name they said no special papers were needed to import gun parts, are these controlled US exports?
 
When I talked to the lady on the phone she said "We ship barrels to Canada all the time and have no problems" So...
