I'm considering ordering one of the latest Norinco Model M1911A1C HC pistols.
Judging by the pics, that double-stack magazine looks like it makes the pistol pretty wide by the grips.
My question is, how does it feel in your hands? Is it uncomfortably thick? Is it harder to handle, reach the
controls, etc?
I've got a standard 1911A1 and a Beretta 92A1--they're both fine for me.
I like the look of the Commander HC--it seems to have a lot of stuff for the money, but if the grip feels too thick for comfort, is it worth it to have two extra rounds in the mag? 10 rd limit vs 7/8 std instead of the designed 'Hi Cap' of 14 rounds?
What's your opinion?
I'd appreciate any other tips before I order; How's the finishing? Will I need to be doing any gunsmiting 'out-of-the-box'?

thx
CW
BTW--I got the Norinco 1911A1 (std) GI replica w/ blued finish a few years ago, and it's been fine--no issues at all with it.

If increased mag capacity is all you're after why not just run 10 rd mags in your regular 1911? I run Chip McCormick 10 rounders and they work fine.

Where are you seeing Norinco Model M1911A1C HC offered for sale?

If it's anything like the old NP-28, those things are huge. And not just in the grip area.

Had one, hated it. Tooo BIG.

My para double stack 16-40 was fine...sure it was a little bigger than a single stack..but still very useable...I agree however that it does change the ergo's slightly...

I have the double stack Norc 1911 and a Para. Commander. The Norc is fatter in the hand. I would say that if you have a larger than average hand (like me) it is OK. It is fatter than the PC, even with thin grips.

NP-28 was my first auto purchase. I was stunned as to it's size!
Frame, slide, everything was over sized. Kind of put me off 1911s for a while.
Eventually got a single stack, and now love them.

thx! That seems like a smart alternative: I can use 10 rd single-stack mags while still retaining the slim lines of a standard 'Commander'-style pistol. (doh!)
I guess the only reason to go with Norinco's double-stack mag would be in hopes our government might lift their ban on standard capacity magazines...
:Laugh2

I'd also prefer a Fiber optic front sight as shown on the HC variant...

Er, so where would I find those 'Chip McCormick' mags?

Brownells . The last time I looked they were 31.95 and slightly cheaper if you bought a three-pac. Shipping to Canada usually runs 12-15 dollars for small stuff.

Single stack

Thanks for those opinions.
I think I'll go with the standard 1911A1C with the single stack.
Seems like the only good reason to have the double stack would be
to allow the pistol to accommodate the full 14 rd mags, otherwise the
extra width in the grip serves no purpose (unless you've got hands the
size of 'Hickok 45's!).

Northern Republic Magazines has them. I've also bought them from Wanstalls but in store only.

Mousey's trigger 'breaks like glass'...

thx!

Btw--The HC double stack variant is to be found at Marstar (remember Marstar?).
Btww--I just noticed at SFRC, their single stack commanders come with
the FIBRE OPTIK front sight.

"Oh, fate...stay mine finger from thine mousey trigger!" :runaway:
