Q: Pressure points?

Hey guys need your guys analysis. I think I've found the load for my rifle however the 3rd shot in both groups went sideways so to say.
What is causing the flier?

I'm thinking that the barrel heats up after the second shot and it is touching somewhere along the barrel. Also as barrel is not truly free floated due to a pressure point 2/3 of the way to the receiver on the stock supporting the barrel. Thoughts? Should i relieve the stock along the barrel and remove the support under the barrel or is there something else I should take into account. Thanks in advance.

The rifles a T3 lite SSS 300WSM. I'll be happy to share my load if anyone's interested I think it will be a killer load just fire me a PM

If its a synthetic stock...free float all the way down...if the shot is thrown to the right you have left hand pressure. if its wood remove the pressure band and bed the last inch of the stock,BUT DONT BED A different fore end tip,it sends out different vibrations. Make sure that the barrel is bedded for 1 inch in front of the receiver...then free floated till the last inch which should be fully bedded...
 
I am very disappointed in you icehunter121. It should be obvious to anyone that the beaver on the nickel farted and caused the bullet to drift to the right. I gotta teach you clowns to be more observant. MORE COFFEE PLEASE! Rod he he he he he he he he he
 
Isn't that curious. My Stainless Tikka T3 lite in 308 does precisely the same thing. First two shots often touch or darn close, third shot goes off slightly to the side but same elevation. I also believe its related to barrel temperature as I then let it cool and the next ones go right back into the group, but if I shoot many in a row, they walk off to the side. I intend to do nothing about it, the gun shoots great in my opinion. Third shot's small change isn't that important to me for a hunting gun. If I can't hit it on the first two shots, I doubt #3 and onwards get much better a chance.
 
I have never tried it because of the cost grizzlypeg but all of the custom barrel makers worth their salt send out their barrels and have them stress relived. I don’t believe in cryo stress relieving but sticking it in an O2 free environment and cooking the crap out of it for a few hours has more or less been proven time and time again. Try yarding off the barrel and sending it to a heat treating outfit and give it a try. That’s one experiment I always wanted to try on a barrel that walks. Sounds like you have an ideal candidate. I would but I’m a gunsmith. I don’t shoot em I just fix em. Rod
 
First make sure that the butt is pulled to your shoulder snugly with the same effort each time. If the rifle gets a tiny bit of a running start towards your shoulder you will get exactly this result. It may occur on any of the shots. If yours is in fact only happening on the third shot you may indeed have a heat/pressure effect.

Yeah I have the same though. I'm not going to touch it now because it's hunting season and if first two shots are touching it should be all I need to take any game.

Once hunting season's over, I'll do a little bit more testing with this load and relieve the stock to see how well it does afterwards.

The load looks good on paper for the 6 shots. 180gr IB, SD: 9fps; Avg vel:2919 energy range:3405 ft.lbs. extreme spread: 32 fps.

Ya I shoulda known....my ex used to let out the odd beaver fart and it blew me right side ways...Damn this old age thing...:slap:
