Just wondering out loud as to how difficult or costly it may be to have a 16 gauge Rolling Block relined to .45 long colt.

Say that I already have a 21" 7/8 OD dia .45 Colt liner. The bore of a 16 gauge rolling block is .663. Presuming there's enough meat left on the barrel how costly or difficult would this job be? (ballpark)

Would it be easier just to have a new barrel threaded/chambered and be done with it? FYI: I have a reamer and unchambered barrel available too if this helps.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Rich

It is not particularly difficult if you are a knowledgeable machinist. I would suggest securing the liner with the loktite intended for securing bearings. More important however is whether or not a liner is close to the diameter of your bore. You probably want about .003" clearance between the liner and the barrel and I am guessing that your bore may be quite a bit larger than the liner. If that is true you will have to turn a full size barrel down to fit. At the very least you will probably have to drill out the choke at the muzzle. When I have lined barrels, I have mounted the barrel on the crossfeed of the lathe and used the lathe to turn the drill then pulled the drill through the barrel rather than push it. Also be sure to knock the back corners off of the drill so that it does not dig in when you back it out and be sure to clear the chips OFTEN.
