Q: STI Edge

I have purchased STI Edge in .40 S&W, still waiting for transfer.

I have a question,
which parts wear most in STI and what I should start stocking up?

I am going to use for IPSC shooting, hard to say how many rounds but more then usual use.

It will take some time before anything wears on the Edge, they are built pretty solid. You may want a spare recoil spring for down the road, but other than that it would just be upgrade parts like Mainspring housing that fits your grip, FO sights, extended mag release, different trigger lengths to suit, etc.
 
Springs.... And if it has the recoil master you may want to consider getting a solid guide rod and plug...

That should be all you'll have to replace for many years.

I "hear" that sometimes the polymer grip portion may need replacing after 100,000 plus rounds...

Trigger bits (sear, hammer, disconnector), you'll probably want to have worked on now and then, but they shouldn't need replacing.

Mag bases, springs and possibly followers are more likely items to need work before the pistol bits. After a solid guide rod and plug thats where I'm putting my money on my (new to me) Edge.

I have an Edge as well. A spare extractor set up for your gun is a nice thing to keep in the rangebag. When one breaks or looses its tension it's sure to happen in the middle of an IPSC match.

The Edges are bull barrel & reverse plug. No wimpy bushing to break. And yes they are built like a tank. You will love this gun!

And +1 to what Rapt said. I have found my Edge cycles a little smoother after diching the recoilmaster for a one piece guide rod.

Nah...the part you'll need to get fixed most is the FO front sight. If you're new to IPSC, you'll have a tendency to stick the gun all the way into ports, and you'll bash the front sight during recoil. ;)
 
Don't forget the cross-pin on the rear sight. I don't know if they've improved that part, but I've had at least three that I've had to replace. (At least two other guys I know have had the same experience). The pin is made of hard steel and has a mortice milled into its middle which tends to be the point of fracture. A decent "fix" has been to replace it with something like a piece of finishing nail (peened on each end).

As far as replacing parts, the extractor is the only part I've had to re-tension (it lost its tension at a match a couple of years ago - now I carry a spare).

Other than those two minor annoyances, they're an awesome pistol.
 
If you have a new Edge? well then no parts for a while.....and everything is wanranty :) by Freedom/STI

The rear sight pin broke a couple time with us....Being a lefty I also broke the Ambi on that gun once......Freedom has the best service possible...
