Bullseye just posted on their site pre-orders for the Q5 Match SF for $2049. At that price is it worth it? A shadow 2 goes for around $1200, a Stock 2 Extreme around $2700.

Buy one and let us know! :)

MustangFrank was planning on it. Not sure if he'll balk at that price, but he seemed very interested.

I'm tempted. It's over double the price I paid for a used Q5 so it should make me twice as good of shooter right? Pretty sure how that works.

Definitely!

fwiw, if you are shopping between those two, you should up the S2 to an optics ready version. $1300. Keeps your options open if you decide to try PO, and you can have the dot at a lower height. The Walther SF is OR.

[edit to add]
How many rounds do you expect to shoot a year?

Love my PPQ M2 5” polymer which I use mostly for 3 Gun. Was excited when I heard Walther was introducing a steel frame version and was thinking of picking one up, but not at that price.

Around 10,000.
That's what I shot last year. So another way to look at the price difference between them is to look at the $ in terms of ammo. The Walther is about 4-6 months of ammo more expensive, depending on your ammo cost. A little less because you can most likely use your existing mags. :)

Well CZ 75 TSO is over $2000 as well, I definitely will get one but no rush to buy one. They will show up on EE eventually but they have been getting great reviews on youtube, flat shooter and very good grips geometry. June is still far away!

Are you suggesting if I spend my money on ammo and actually practice I’ll be a better shooter then running out and getting the latest and greatest gun?! Unheard of!

Yeah it’s hard to justify getting it at that price. I think I’ll take Squiggy’s suggestion and wait until they show up on EE.

The Walther has a bit better trigger, but its a trade-off on price. The superior CZ Shadow 2 outclasses the Q guns, mags are cheaper, and the all steel frame & slide reek of quality & accuracy.

Well some of the early Shadow2's slides apparently are cracking so I would not go to far down the road reeking with quality when it comes to the Shadow2. It is a very nice gun though.

The Walther PPQ Match is a quality product and if the SF version is built the same way it will be no slouch when it comes to build quality and nobody I know of complains about the Walther's accuracy or trigger. The gun weighs in under 43oz so it is not a brick. Pricing though seems high to me but it is what it is. Not sure I can get $2K of improvement in my shooting buying the gun. Not sure hell I know I can't. Mayeb the EE will serve me well on this one.

Take Care

Bob

I love my q5 match id maybe pay $1500 for the steel frame but 2k is hard to justify without an optic.

For 2k I can have an optic and light laser on my q5 match

I guess the model with the magwell will come it at around 2200 then. Looking forward to seeing how they compare to others, but that will be in the same ball park as the optic ready version of the Shadow 2 Orange.

There's a very lightly used TSO 9mm on the EE for about $2000 right now.

That's the common opinion, and I subscribe to it. I still use an original Shadow in IPSC even though the Shadow 2 is better, because I still have a lot to learn shooting the original Shadow.

That said..... if, and I mean - IF - you really want the Walther SF, it will "only" cost you 4-6 months of ammo. After several years at that burn rate, add up your total cost. The extra cash outlay for the Walther SF will become a smaller percentage of the total cost of shooting. Esp if you sell it at the end. I have friends that shoot 40,000 rounds and more a year. The extra cost of a gun over several years becomes really tiny at that point.

All I can do is shake my head at those who balk at the price. Some can't afford it and thats cool. But the gun itself is priced accordingly when compared to similar pistols. It is not a casual plinker. Stay with the PPQ plastic if that is what is desired or a Glock or S&W if price point is the deciding factor. This is designed from the ground up to be a competition ready pistol in its respective category.

With that in mind, it seems to meet those requirements and is considerably less money than other purpose designed competition pistols. I already have several competition pistols over 2G so I feel this is in the same league. I do hate myself for putting a deposit on a pre order. I swore I would never do that, but it might be the only way to get one before the IPSC Nationals. We'll see.
