Hello, I was wondering what experiences everyone has had with QD mounts for a scope on a precision rifle. I know it seems like an odd idea but I'm soon to invest money on my glass and want to know if removing it for protection during transport is a bad idea. I've read up on it a little bit but would rather have facts instead of opinions.
Thanks

I have a QD setup but not for removal for protection. As said above, get a good quality case with foam. I do mine to swap rifles but more so, just so it's tool less. Have a few scopes in that setup and if something seems off or someone else's scope seems messed, pull mine off, snap it on, no tools and away we go.

Have you ever taken the scope off and reattached it to the same rifle to test how well it holds zero?

I have to re-zero every time I swap my Nightforce from my .338 to my 6.5, no matter how careful I am. Now, of course they are completely different rifles and calibers, but the adjustments are never the same. If your scope is going to be used on only that rifle and damage is a concern, than as Shabazz stated, get a good case. I carry my rifle in a Voodoo drag bag/shooting mat. No issues here.

Yes I have in the same rifle. So far it is bang on, or within a 1/4 minute. If your gonna do QD, get quality QD. That helps.

Larue, many guys trust their lives to it, they really are one of the best at return to Zero. my experience has been excellent with Larue,

The question is, why do I think I really need a QD set up?

There are Cdn vendors, and also some on Amazon that will ship to Canada.

Wholesale Sports lists them.

My current understanding is that scope rings are not ITAR controlled.
