QD Throw Levers , forward or rear facing ?

Is there a set standard or is it preference , facing forward or to the rear and on the near side or off side , just got my first mount with them and want some advice ,thanks .

This is on a AR , by the way , I'm thinking facing forward on the off side , my reason for that is that I can keep my grip with my master hand , press the lock with my offhand thumb and pull back to release with the index finger , the only down side I can see to this is the lever , facing forward , getting hung up on gear close to the body , and maybe I'm just over thinking it .

the momentum of the lever would want to send it forward as the rifle travels back


if it cams over it shouldn't matter

I have them on the same side as the ejection port.

Same. Ejection port side with levers locking towards the shooter.

I keep mine on the right side on a semi-auto, because I have a left side cocking handle. If I had a right side cocking handle (e.g. a CZ858) I'd put them on the left side.

On a bolt action, I'd put them on the left side (I'm right handed).

Basically, I want them away from where my hands are going to be manipulating the action. If they face forward or rearward really is irrelevant to me, but depends on how the mount was designed / manufactured.

Some QD mounts allow you to reverse the levers so they lock in the desired direction.

The most common configuration (right handed) is on the left side of the rifle, closing the lever towards the rear (less likely to get caught on things when moving forwards with the rifle) if that's what you're after.
