they're advertising a mount for $140, it looks like a solid piece of kit, but i'm completely unknowledgeable about this field. has anyone used this mount or have any advise about it?

Do you have a link or pic? It might be useful if people knew what it was you are asking about.

I assume you are asking about the mount in the pic on their home page. It sounds rather new I don't know if there will be many reviews yet. At first glance it looks like it is really tall and might be an issue if you do not have a cheek riser. I am also not a fan of not being able to use irons either.

But for $140 you really can go wrong if you get at least a year or two out of it.

I might pick one up in the next little while.

I like the looks of that. Always thought, F the rear sight, I want a rail that'd go right back.
Does seem high though.

Thanks for the new idea

With a Promag stock, shorty chop/front sight&flash hider delete, and Vortex PST 1-4X, that could make a really interesting, useful rifle, for my needs anyway.

150 BUX!
You can get a pro-mag ARM18 knock off for that much. Hell for $30 more you could get the real arms 18 mount direct from arms them selves. Did they even anodized the rail? Also how much maring is done under that rail were it touches the front of the reciever? See that shinny patch. Hmmm I wonder how that was caused buy???
Also only 2 screws in were the rear sight's use to be contect this to the rifle heh. Okay so lets watch this video of an M14 cycling then lets picture an allumin rail on top and I will ask you again...
Why is thera a shinny patch of metal under the rail located on top of the front of the receiver? Also letz not forget the side to side torqueing from the bolt locking in and out of battery.
:HR::bsFlag:d:h:
Damm just not enough icons to explain about how bad this mount is.
Oh ya here is a couple of vid's to watch ;)

I don't know why your talking like this about a mount you never own.

I bought it and it old it zero with no problem. The metal is rock solid. It's made in Canada and we should be proud of that. You have 4 screw, 2 to fix the mount on the rifle and 2 more for applying counter pressure on the receiver.
I'm fully satistfied with this purchase and I'm recommending it.

i used the mount for a bit, worked good, held zero, easy to install, i didn't like losing my irons so i swapped it out for a promag/arms18 clone mount....

Distrust it all you like, it works very well. It is a very solid peice even if it is made from aluminium. It is substantially beefier then the marstar deluxe side mount rail.
Would it be better in steel or titanium, maybe. However, practical experience has shown me that it is very effective with a very large scope on it.
I punched 10 rounds into 2 inches at 100 yards. 7 of those rounds into 1 inch.

Oh, I already got an aluminium sadlak mount to try. If that doesn't work, it's steel all the way.
I'm trying aluminium cause it's going to get the intended, rarely used treatment. 308win is expensive.

It might be just fine for most uses and most folks. It's just that I will probably bang my rifle on logs, backpacks, etc., and occasionally drop it so I can use my hands to catch myself in rough hunting terrain. I don't intentionally treat my gear poorly, but I expect it to function as a battle rifle (albeit the battle to fill the freezer) and maintain zero. My work experience has taught me that aluminum is not very strong, and allowing leverage (the front not positively attached) is asking for headache. Also remember that I compare rifle toughness to an iron sighted M16A2 carried daily in field conditions.

Then good luck, I expect you will find most of the m14 bolt on scope mount options to be disappointing if you compare them to m16 iron sights. They all seem to be designed around middle and rear connection allowing for a certain amount of leverage from the front.
Good luck with whatever you trust. LRB receiver might be your best bet.

an arms 18 is very hard to beat at 200 ish landed. solid steel, solid mounting points, PROVEN reputation with the us military and law enforcement.

satain and i made one of these type mounts .... like the one you guys are talking about from those guys on the island...... but we made ours over a year ago. there were several reasons why we abandoned the project all based on forseeing failures with this design.
if you realize how simple and cheap one can produce a mount such as the casm..... with a simple block with some holes and a simple piece of rail with some holes....... in aluminum....... the 150.00 price tag is highway robbery....... when compared to mounts that are steel , proven...... and only 50 or so dollars more.

i wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole. incidentally the guy who brought it to market is a former cgn'er who was banned from the site.

while it may work okay for some........ give us a review after 2000 rounds on each of several rifles with varying optics and conditions........ 500 rounds is not a fair durability test in ANY marketplace.

On my way, I'll let you know when I get to 2000.
M14 I recommend you edit your post to include comments regarding the arms 18 and the build quality of the CASM scope mount only. I would delete one sentence in particular as we don't won't to bring personalities into this.

I ordered one of these CASM mounts a few days ago, I don't care if I loose the rear sight on my rifle, I may buy or build a shorty with irons. I just hope it works as good as claimed by the maker and others who have one. I think I will mount a matte fixed 6x Weaver I have found these are very tough scopes.
