Now, there is tons of different toys out there now for the quads, but very expensive. And the few that I have tried kind suck, but with a little extra weight they do something, but you kill your quad.

Now, for food plots, just much to do you have to break up of virgin soil to make it work?

Some of these little garden tractors with a tow behind tiller or mounted 3 pt, do just fine job and can get into some narrow paths to clearings.

I just finished my first of four plots, they are 2 acre plots, and the little tractor wins in my book.

The quad was starting to over heat, and would foul up the plugs.
The tractor 12hp keep on going, and going. It used more gas than the quad
But it the end, why kill a $5000.00 or more quad. When my $400.00 tractor does it, but slower.

What do you use and why? and what attachments have you tried on your quad?

you do know that planting food plots for the purpose of attracting and hunting big game is illegal in Manitoba.

A quad has more HP then a tractor, so why couldnt the quad do it...

Nvm, answered my own question, no wonder you couldnt pull anything with a $5000 quad....

Depends on the quad. I have had 12+ different bikes, and some would excell at pulling...I mean REALLY excell (Suzuki king-quad 300 (3 range tranny), Bombardier Traxter 500, Kawi KVF360 (dual range) ), and some big bikes that wouldn't pull worth a crap (Brute Force KVF 750 twin, KVF 650, Artic cat 650 Twin, Griz 600 and 660 and anyhing by polaris)

It's all torque and, more importantly, gearing. That little KQ 300 would tow your house accross the street in Super-low range.

In a nutshell, impossible to answer your question as asked, but if It were me? I'd pick the (appropriate) quad over a tractor.

Unless you have the low range like Wrong Way mentioned, the gearing is too high to on most quads for tilling purposes. For 2 acre sized plots my choice would be 8n Ford, Allis Chalmers WD or similar sized tractor. The tractor and implements would cost less than the cost of the quad alone and would do the job in about 1/4 the time.

I used the summit plot mule, that I rented from a local place.

Worked awesome behind the 400 cc Polaris sportsman. My plot is about 50 yards by 100 yards though. If I was going to do a bigger plot, I would use a bigger ATV.

Did it all in low range.

When choosing a quad, specify you want one for work. A four wheel, high weight capacity, high wheel base, 5 speed manual, fixed axel quad(not independant rear suspension) with enough cc's will surprise you.

...but no they certainly aren't large wheel driven tractors. Then again, tractors aren't worth much either running deep into mountain trails miles far away from no where and they're no way as much fun as a quad can be either!

Horsepower is irrelevant with regard to a tractor vs Quad. A 20 hp tractor (not lawn tractor) will pull a 20 hp quad apart with torque through gear reduction, and actual engine torque.
My cousins 23 hp MF can pull a fully loaded log trailer with 4 split and stacked cords in it. My quad wont even budge the trailer empty. :D
If I had both, I'd use the tractor for sure...

Wrong Way hit the nail on the head. Its all about gearing. My uncle has a 1995(i think) zuki 300 kingquad. His wife has a 2005 honda foreman 450. That kingquad in super low gear could flip that foreman right on its back in a pulling contest. We use the king quad when the outlander isnt around for moose hunting. Pulled a big cow and calf out last year(one at a time), needed someone on the front rack to keep the front end down but it hauled it out fairly easily.

My Suzi (o5 Eiger)and I pull my 4x8 steel trtailer with a layer of wood, no problem. Trailer with wood weighs about 2000lbs. Manual with hi-lo will out perform any auto when it comes to hauling.

Nothing like hundreds of pounds of rotating mass to create torque. I picked this up a few weeks ago. These were a favorite for breaking land.

In good running condition, the 820 run about 5 to 6000. This one was at a farm sale with a couple other 820. The pony motor could not start due to a bad carb so I got it for about 3700. I had a spare carb and now it runs great.:D

Darryl, ask the dealer if you can try it out before you buy. A buddy of mine was considering a similar Kubota a couple of years ago and they were willing to bring it out to his place for him(us) to try it out. The ground around here is pretty stoney and we found it just didn't have enough weight to push the backhoe bucket down (pick the rear of the tractor clear off the ground instead). The dealer was in Elora, Ontario, but your dealer may do the same and it may work better if your soil conditions are different.
