I think most would agree Lapua makes the best brass and it seems Remington and Winchester has left us reloaders high and dry.
I would encourage everyone to email lapua. It only takes a minute or two..
request
7mm rem mag
300 win mag
7mm saum
300 wsm
6mm dasher

request others if you wish..
If they get tons of emails maybe they will produce them...

7mm rem mag --> Not normally thought of as a PR cartridge
300 win mag --> Agree, Lapua brass in 300WM would be great.
7mm saum --> Market demand probably not big enough
300 wsm --> Not really a PR cartridge, more so hunting.
6mm dasher --> Fireform from 6BR, why go through the expense of a new production line?

There are more brass manufacturers out there besides Lapua. Norma and RWS also make top-notch stuff.

Norma is far more expensive, not near as tough and generally just isn't as good as Lapua. I gave those calibres as examples. I was just trying to do something because this is becoming pathetic...
This thread also isn't meant to debate what calibres/ cartridges. I think most people get that.

I actually agree with both if you.

I have 250 pieces of Norma 6xc brass and it is pretty good (I have to round out the necks with a mandrel) but I do always try to find Lapua brass where possible.

However, I would probably shoot some different calibers if Lapua made it. A 7mm RM shooting the new heavy Hornady ELD-Ms would be pretty sweet.

Some of the highest BC bullets out there are 7mm. I think that the 7mm Rem Mag is going to come into it's own for extreme range shooting soon.
Interesting to speculate but the 284 Win offers a great deal with less fire and recoil and about 20% less powder.

There is also the 280AI right on the heels of the 7mm mag. Just need to neck size Lapua 30-06 brass down to 7mm and fire form it.

Good point - I hadn't thought of the .284 Win. Either that or the 7mm-08 could get popular for short action precision rifles.

I guess I'm comparing for long actions - there when you compare the 7mm Rem Mag to the .300 Win Mag, the BC of the bullets available the 7mm wins in most product lines when compared to each other.

For example, Hornady ELD-Match. I'll compare bullets of the same product line...

6.5mm best BC is 147 gr at .697 (G1)
7mm best BC is 180 gr at .796 (G1)
30 cal best BC is 225 gr at .777 (G1)

Another example, Sierra Matchkings.

6.5mm best BC is 142 gr at .626 (G1)
7mm best BC is 197 gr at .780 (G1)
30 cal best BC is 240 gr at .711 (G1)

Yet another example, the Barnes Match Burners

6.5mm best BC is 140 gr at .586 (G1)
7mm best BC is 171 gr at .645 (G1)
30 cal best BC is 175 gr at .521 (G1)

Now I'll admit there are exceptions such as the Nosler Accubond Long Range. But the majority of bullets available, the 7mm beats .30 cal and 6.5.

6.5mm best BC is 142 gr at .719 (G1)
7mm best BC is 175 gr at .672 (G1)
30 cal best BC is 210 gr at .730 (G1)

To connect back to the OP....with the considerable resurgence in interest with the 284Win maybe Lapua should retool their equipment to straight 284 rather than having consumers need to dress the 6.5-284 stuff.

What about Peterson Match grade brass? Would it fill the gap until Lapua starts to make belted cases? They offer 300 Win.
Has anyone used Peterson Match brass?
Xreload is now sells it .

I just ordered some in 308 to neck down to 7mm-08. Sure hope it is better then the lapua I tried and sold because I was unimpressed.

I have lapua 7mm08 brass and it is the most consistent brass i have seen to date and tough as nails. I still can't believe it is this good. It is even better than my 6.5x47 lapua brass which is hard to believe.

"Nothing was collapsed. The stuff I had was stamped 7mm-08 lapua. Very inconsistent."

First that we have heard, would you please provide lot number and details to us?

Peter, info@hirschprecision.com

Don't know the lot number. Sold it to someone that wanted to try make it work for them. Some primer pockets were very tight and some like it had 10 max loads on them. After firing once problem got worse. Some very tight some very loose. Neck tension was extreme when new and after firing once some was tight and some loose. Never had a single issue with necked down Winchester 308 or hornady 7mm-08. Some of those have over 10x fired.

Some 223 brass necked to 6mm for my 6x45. Pockets are good. Headspace was to short so had to jam a bullet to get them to fire. Next had to neck turn to get them to chamber without having to force the bolt down. Usually necking up thins the brass but not with these. Hornady, Winchester, federal, and Remington brass have no such issues. Hornady and rp were both 5x+ fired as 223 and now another 5-10x fired as 6x45. Never an issue.
