Quality of Marine Magnum, and 14" questions

I hate cleaning away rust, which is why I love my chrome-lined Norinco pistol and rifle barrels, and the satin nickel finish on my CZ-85 Combat. Good finishes really play a strong role in preventing corrosion, which is why the 870 Marine Magnum appeals to me.

However, I hear on this board that Remington's quality is going downhill. I want a shotgun that is reliable with an action smooth enough to avoid short-stroking. I also want one that has a 14" barrel. So here are my options as I see them:

1. Get a Marine Magnum and a replacement 14" barrel

2. Get a Remington 870P in 14"

3. Get a Norinco HP9 and hope it doesn't rust

Do you find that the internal finish on the Remington shotguns is superior enough to the Norinco to justify 2X the price? I know the HP9 external finish is comparable to the Remington Express, but not the internal finish. I just don't like looking at my rifle 5 weeks after cleaning it and finding rust. Which shotgun am I safest with?
 
The only way you will get a crome 14 inch barel for your marine mag is to buy one from Dlask,Norc 14inch or try to find a used factory one then you will have to get it profesionaly done.
What i have done to my MM is just put on a 14 Inch Norc barel.
Than again the Norc hp9 is great in itself and fairly cheap to buy.I wouldnt worry about corrosion unless you are plannig on getting it wet.I havnt cleaned the Norc for about three months and have found no rust anywhere.
 
I guess you could also get a cheap gun and have it plated. It would likely end up costing the same as the marine magnum.
 
Another option:

Fabarm...14" barrel..
Aluminium receiver, chrome bore.
The only thing that could rust is the mag tube and the exterior of the barrel.
I've been neglecting mine (Martial Proforces), to say the least, and there's no rust yet.
I like it so much I'm thinking of getting another bare-bones one with the regular stock and bead sight. If it turns out we can put a factory pistol grip on the 14 inchers, I'll have no choice. :)

the quality of the MM is no greater than any other 870. yea, maybe the finish is better, but the action is the same.
the MM is basically an Express w/ an upgraded, corrosion resistant finish.

i'd go 870 P if you want something better...:rockOn:
 
Marine Magnums will rust. That's twice I posted that tonite. I guess I beter post some pics soon.
Mine has small spots of rust on it. It was a police trade in and I'm assuming it saw some marine duty..

I had major extraction issues with mine. Exchanged it for a different one - same problem. It seems the chamber was too narrow, as the empty shells required an immense amount of effort to extract. The same ammo worked perfectly in other shotguns. Brought the second example back for a refund and will never own anything made by Remington again.
 
Well the same thing could happen to most gun manufacterers...
Some guns thot cycle certain ammo brands too good.
I never had a problem with my MM, but I'm not saying that all MM shotguns are the same

I have to disagree with the statement that the MM is equivalent to the Express. I've got both, and the fit and finish on the MM are definitely a cut above the Express. The tolerances are tighter, the action smoother, and the trigger lighter.

i've heard a lot of people saying the MM's action is so smooth due to the nickel coating.
my friend has a MM, and it IS smooth...

I don't know whether it's the plating or not, but yeah, they are smooth. When I took mine in to the local smith's to get Trak-Loks installed, he racked it a couple of times and said that there wasn't much point in him trying to get the action any smoother.
 
i love my marine magnum action is so smooth.no problems with short stroking or ejecting.i have over 7000 rounds through mine so far and it just keeps eating ammo.lol

I love this attitude, two examples of one model of one product didn't work right for me so everything they have ever made or ever will make is crap :rolleyes:
 
Does Remington sell longer 20" or 26" electroless nickel plated barrels for the Marine Magnum?
