I keep reading how the new Ruger 10/22's have plastic trigger guards and a lot of plastic parts now and have gone down in quality. Is that true?

I put 10000 rounds through my new one this year alone. They are still the best common .22lr semi on the market imo. Keep in mind that for a lot of situations a polymer(plastic) can be the better material. Impact resistance for instance. Metal bends or dents and stays there where a lot of polymers will absorb the shock and spring back. Polymers can be stronger in a lot of ways then steel. Especially when reinforced with an aramid fiber or even glass. Bottom line: you cant go wrong with a 10-22 new or old.

Changes have been made over the years.

I think going with polymer is not a bad thing...especially for the areas that benefit with reduced weight for carry.

Here's an old vid from that long beard fellow. (Jeff)

He does a drop test on the trigger guard and compares differences with an old 10/22 and the current...enjoy.
