Quebec Minimum Caliber for large game?

I need some help ....

Ok, so the Quebec Hunting Regs specify 6 mm (.243) centerfire as the minimum legal caliber for moose and deer.

"Rifles of a calibre equal to or greater than 6 mm (.243) used with centre-fire cartridges"

Now, how does one have to interpret this? Does that exclude pistol cartridges or not?

I mean, I have 32ACP ammo here and that would be a larger caliber ... right?
(Not that I would want to shoot at a moose with a 32ACP)

But a friend of mine is wondering about other pistol catridges, like 9mm, 44 magnum, 45 Colt for large game hunting in Quebec ...
 
Why would you want to hunt large game with 9mm and other pistol caliber when more efficient rifle caliber are out there, designed for this purpose.

I know some previous FQT president said that 22mag was good enough for moose... But this guy is no reference.
 
I personally don't see why you couldn't use pistol calibers. I know people in the states hunt with handguns, or at least have heard about it. Saw a guy the other day that was going to use his ruger pc carbine in 9mm for whitetail. It's probably not the best of choices, better are out there, but hey if you hit it right.

How many deer do you think were killed with the .44 Henry or the .44-40??

And how many with bow and arrows?

A rifle chambered in 9mm or 38 Special would be perfectly legal for big game hunting in Québec, even if it would be a very bad choice..

B C is any center fire for big game. I don't think anyone would use a 17 Rem on moose, but you could. No fear of that, the magnum and 45 70 craze is still going strong here.
