Wow, just obtained my certificate for hunting wild turkey. Has anyone else done their course online? I found it to be quite interesting. It was great to be able to do the course quietly online without spending an entire day surrounded by know-it-all's......... (There are some at EVERY course).
When we took our handgun course, there was this big mouth TURKEY there who thought he was there to do the wild turkey course. He didn't stop asking questions about turkey hunting the whole time!! Talk about annoying!
2 weeks ago we also spent an entire day taking the cross-bow course. The game-warden who came to explain certain laws had to ask the instructor about some of them because he wasn't aware........ Geez....... talk about confidence! To make a long story short, I think the online thing is amazing!
Thanks for listening .....

Hello Rick, I also took the course this winter via web.
I cannot wait for this season turkey hunt.

They were every were last fall during deer season.
I just came back from work and I saw 5 turkey in a field near my house.

Which you good luck for this spring.

I hunt in Dunham, seen quite a few last yr. Saw about 25 of them on the neighboring property, if I can just get them to come over to the land I hunt on. Pee's me off that you have to take another course to hunt them though.

Seriously ? Is this an "official" requirement in the province ?

turkey hunting

Hi Guys,
Yes, it's a provincial requirement here in Quebec. It's the first year of wild turkey hunting & the fee is so high because 15$ from every person who follows the course goes to conservation & studying of the wild turkey. (God only knows if it goes there but that's what they told us!!)
It seems silly to have to take the course, but once you follow it, it's actually quite interesting. I really enjoyed it!
We live in a small development here in Dunham but behind our house is all green zone land. It's so nice to go out early in the morning and hear those gobblers waking up. They are really vocal!!
Where we hunt whitetails in Brigham, there are so many wild turkeys. It's been fun to see the numbers increase the past 3 or 4 years now. Last year during deer season, I don't know how many times those birds disturbed me. They say they are nervous..... Well, they came pretty close to me. (Of course I was on the ground & pretty well camoflaged - except for my bright orange vest!!!).
Take care!

Thanks, I couldn't find anything in the regs anywhere about that.

Same course crap in Ontario. At least it sounds like you can take yours online.

In the Ontario seminar that you have to attend in person you learn that it has to have a beard to be shot. The beard is on the chest of the bird. The beard is all-important. The beard is all-knowing.

Did I mention it has to have a beard?

In Québec you must take the course in order to hunt goblers. You must use a shotgun with number 4, 5 or 6 shot and you have to harvest only birds with beards and spurs. You can hunt only from 1/2 hour before sunup to noon. You are allowed only one bird per year.
The 15$ goes to relocate goblers as was done for the last five years by the Québec wildlife federation. They started about five years ago when they puchased some goblers from Ontario at a cost of 50$ each and introduced them in the Ville de LaPêche, Hemingford and the eastern townships regions.
Two years ago they had an experimental hunt for two weeks and a maximum of 30 could be harvested, After one week they had 35 harvested so the hunt was stopped. Last year they did the same experimental hunt and it was a succes. This year a hunt is allowed in certain regions. Read the rules and regulations before going on your hunt.
Good hunting..............

I wish you luck in order to find a gobler in certain regions like the following:
1, 2, 3, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 sud, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29

But yes they are allowed.

The MRNF poplation survey indicates 6 000 in zone 10, 10 000 in zone 8 and 5 000 in zones 5+6. The other zones have a trace or nothing.
