Queen Elizabeth - Enfield Picture?

I swore allegiance to the Queen when I joined the army and I take that seriously even after I retired. When she does step down I may consider joining the chorus of voices calling for the end of the monarchy in Canada if Charles takes over. I would wholeheartedly support his sons, Harry especially.

Shooting is part of the Royals life. Although "shooting" mostly means shotgunning, although they are very familiar with the target rifle shooting at Bisley.

The last time I was at Buckingham Place I was discussing hearing protection and hearing loss issues with Philip.

The Queen also served in WW2 long before she became Queen.
While we told George III to we wanted independence and left the empire, I am not against it
Anyone on this side complaining about the monarchy should remember it is Their system.

That's not the Queen or Princess Margaret. Plummy, yes, but not Royals.

Never seen venting like that between forend and handguards on a No1 though.

Thing in Post 29 looks to be rather special. DO I detect an extra Barrel Band, very like the Mark V which that rifle is not?

Be interesting to take a closer peek at it.

It's an extra band to put some pressure on the h/g at this point. They are usually half-bands, sometimes with a stud or spring in the top. a common S.R.(b) modification. And it's definitely not the Queen doing it.
The Royal Tour of South Africa in 1947 saw the royal party transported there and back on the battleship Vanguard. A number of midshipmen were allocated as suitable companions for the Princesses to socialise with. Obsolete smallarms hung on longest in the navy and it's not surprising to see them here in the ship.

The first time I saw the photo in post #13, I decided she must be holding my rifle (hey, you can dream, can't you?):

This is an NRF No 1 Mk III* converted for target shooting by Alex Martin. The "extra" barrel band is a hose clamp made by the Jubilee clamp company. Without it, the top wood over the barrel bows up due to the extra bedding work. I have heard of this before but haven't seen many. Very, very accurate rifle.

The pictures were not simply for PR; Her Majesty was a superb shot with the Number 4, regularly turned out at Bisley for the Commonwealth matches. Win on of the top matches there and you got your name on a trophy, small cash prize.... and a personal LETTER from her in her own writing. Bill Brown had one on the wall in his study.

There exists also a very good photo of her during the War, with Princess Margaret Rose; both are carrying Number 4s.
.

That is the picture I was referring to. Unfortunately, though I have seen it, I did not save it or know where to find it now.

Chances are slim, but hey!.......you just never know! :)
