Wanted to ask about grains.

Just got the new Remi barrel is 1:10

i have a vortex 1-4 mounted and was wondering about what grain i should use? Its in .308

Cheers

The 700 PCR has a 24" barrel? I like to run something in the 175gr class for a 1:10tw barrel like that for shooting at distance. That being said you're running a 1-4X LPVO so realistically you won't be shooting much past 4-500 yds (at least not at anything "small") so I don't know how much it matters, to be honest.

165 is tough to get affordably here the most common grains i have at my disposal are 150 and 180 grain. if i could only choose those two which would you guys recommend?

I'm assuming that you're referring to loaded ammo (not bullets for reloading) in either 150 or 180gr? Just buy a box of each and see which shoots best.

The truth is you can plug bullet info into Berger bullets stability calculator and figure out what the MAX you can stabilize is. Just don't try and go much more than 30% ish less than those max dimensions and you will be in a pretty optimal range for accuracy. For 1:10 you can stabilize up to ABOUT 200 grains depending a lot on length. Which means you probably won't want to go lighter than 155's with a 1:10. As always with these kinds of comments I have to add that it's just a HEURISTIC and not and absolute truth there are always exceptions.
