quest for the perfect pistol.....

Go with the STI....
By the way, my current 'short list' of favourites..
Kimber Tactical ProII (sold that one to Gorky!..miss it), my Glock 34 and my
new favourite... a Glock 19( Questar import with Bar-Sto barrel).
You'll probably do what I do, and you'll buy and sell the same type of gun (now up to three on some units!) and still not find the Perfect Gun)...
I haven't yet!:D

Yeah, maybe. But, I have probs with the safeties and slide releases on some 1911s (I am a lefty).

I wasn't all that jazzed about the Mark 23... my wrist often hurt after shooting it (I have no idea why), and the safety would skin my thumb knuckle on the recoil (another pitfall of being a lefty).
Buy another H&K. Keep your thumb on top and ride the safety when you shoot. This will keep your grip a little higher, so as not to hurt those dainty wrists.:D:p

In all honesty, go STI. Anything by STI. You seem to have a bit of cash kicking around for your "Quest", so you might as well get the Executive, probably the nicest pistol they make. If you're more for the single stack side of 1911's, I'd recommend the straight RangeMaster. I love the asthetics of the full dustcover, and the square trigger guard just rubs me the right way; but that's me and not you.

Anything from STI will make you realize how you should've gone in the first place, instead of messing around with other pistols.

I really love my SIG's, P229/P226. I have had the pleasure to shoot a STI Executive, thanks to a friendly range member, it was absolutly amazing. If you got the cash, spend it!

As a fellow lefty, maybe you should look at a CZ85, I'm looking into it myself as I've never had any CZ. Good luck
Beware if you're a lefty.........the CZ85 is classed as ambidextrous but the mag release button is NOT.......check out the new CZ SPO1, it has ambi mag release button even though it is heavier due to a full length dust cover

The answer is obvious: Sig Sauer. Similar quality and more comfortable grip (for most people) than the USP. The USP has its advantages (manual safety, polygonal bore, perhaps marginally more reliable) but those are relatively minor.

I don't have any personal experience with Kimber but based on what I've read about their quality control, I wouldn't take the risk of purchasing one of their products. If you want a more-or-less affordable quality 1911, get a Smith & Wesson.

I am always drawn to the HKs, because of their reputation for quality, and because I love the way they look. But, they really aren't that comfortable for me to shoot. The Glock 21 likely had the nicest grip of any gun I've owned (but I never actually shot my Glock). I can only afford to keep one or two at a time.

Anyway.... I am at a loss.... what should I try next? I am thinking of trying a Kimber 1911.

If you're not into an STI, I'd give another vote for the CZ SP-01. Quite nice pistols, very affordable, and ambidextrous.

If you're dead-set on 1911's, and you want something affordable, get a SpringField Armory. Pass over Smith and Wesson.

There's your answer. If I could only have one, it would be a G21.:D

UncleWalther,

I have been doing the same thing for awhile...and recently I acquired my first Browning Hi Power. Wow. What a beautiful, ergonomic, accurate and delightful pistol to shoot. If you haven't tried one yet, you owe it to yourself to do so. Jeff/1911.

Thanks for the advice guys... after all that I decided to buy another HK. I just ordered a USP Custom Sport .40S&W from Woverine. I want to try a USP in just one more calibre before I give up on 'em. We'll see how she goes!

Thanks. If my past track record is any indication, then it should be up for sale in about 7 days

Nice gun, I really like the ambi mag release, for a lefty using the trigger finger it's extremely fast. Good Luck.
