Question about 10 round mag

My friend bought a 10 round mag for his Norinco M305 from a Canadian retailer. Turns out this 10 round mag is limited to 5 rounds through the use of a wood block inside the mag.

Common sense says throw it in the garbage unless.....?

Throw what in garbage? the block of wood? That would make the magazine a prohibited item.
However I somehow doubt a block of wood is legal to begin with, but I could be wrong on that. Your friend should properly pin the magazine with a rivet to the legal 5 rounds. Then maybe throw the block of wood out.

If I recall correctly, the government frowns upon nonpermanent ways of making a magazine conform to our laws. Otherwise no one would use rivets if they could get away with pieces if wood.

Canadian law requires magazines for centerfire semi-auto rifles be blocked to no more than 5 rounds. It does not specify HOW they're blocked, only that they're permanently blocked. I doubt the block of wood would have qualified as permanent (most are riveted or welded) but it's there for legal reasons.

Do NOT throw it away unless you or a gunsmith do something else to block that magazine to 5 rounds. In it's original form, it's a prohibited item. Getting caught = charges.

If you are talking about throwing the mag away, have you thought about just using a drill, and a rivet and pinning it yourself? Pretty simple solution.

dont forget to space it for 5.9 rounds, so you can insert it on a closed bolt, and choose your rivet location so it doesnt interfere with insertion of mag.

Bud, didn't they teach this in your PAL course?...you can't have 10 rounds in a semi-auto. Unless you're confusing this with AIA or the LAR mags for black rifles.

FIFY. Those mags are not designed to work in rifles. They just happen to fit. Lets not give anyone any ideas.
