i read alot post that say 338 is alot better than 300 but they always compare 180 gr vs 250 gr but wouldn't it be 220gr vs 250gr. are 30 cal 220gr bullets no good and if they are dose .038 diameter or 30 gr really make that much difference.

the 300mag has optimal preformance with the 180gr. hence the use of it for comparison purposes.

EDIT: you've altered the post so I'll alter my answer. the 338 for sure. 30gr + larger Diameter = bigger punch. also I think if you run the numbers you'll find a 220gr out fo a 300mag is not near the preformer you think it.

The 338 chucks a bigger bullet. If that is attactive to you, the 338 is better...

Personally I never saw a 338 WM do somethign a 300 WM couldn't do, although I admit it *may* have an advantage on really biganimals or iof a grizz was trying to eat you.:)

Yep the 30 Cal round is best suited for 180s some swear by 200s and some by 165s, but ballistics dont lie, 180s are best suited for hunting anyway if its accurate!, as for the 338 it likes 225s and 250s.

I shoot ( which means little ) 250s i n my 338 and find i get better accuracy thats why i went that route!

But if you mean more energy, the 338s got it if you need it! I have not looked it up for some time but i would guess there an extra 700-1000 foot pounds or so at muzzle available with the 338. But thats a guess

But as Gatehouse suggested call and ace an ace, we live in North America!! But its fine to have both lol !! or shoot what you want with what caliber you wish!

We all know the 300 wm and 338 wm come from the same parent case. Both are equal in their original intended purpose.

The comparison is much like 300 H&H to 375 H&H, but functions in a shorter action. Both have a job to do.
