So I'm posting this here because 33MS is probably well known to people who work on AR's.

Awhile ago I purchased a tube of 33MS for installing a few AR barrels. I went with 33MS because despite the never ending debate about what grease to use when installing AR barrels, 33MS seems to be accepted by everyone.
It's worked great for that purpose.

Of course, that takes very little grease, and it comes in a large tube... so you pretty much get a lifetime supply of the stuff.

Recently I've started using it elsewhere where one might use grease on a firearm (bolts, slide rails, etc) because it was just what i happened to have on hand. I've found it works pretty well.
Now, you can read never-ending debates on what grease to use for every gun and application until the cows come home.
People use lots of different types of grease/oils, but 33MS never really gets recommended for anything other than barrel installs on an AR15.
Is there any reason why it WOULDN'T be an acceptable grease for other applications?

Yes, Shell 33MS grease was designed to do an assortment of all around lubricating jobs on aircraft that are done by a series of greases. Its a middle of the road grease with good low and med high temp ratings with good corrosion and oxidization additives included. It is good all around grease deigned to do a lot of things but not all and reduce lube stock inventory and there's no reason why it cannot be used for general lubrication reasons along with barrel installations on ARs. Its just a costly grease as its designed and certified for aircraft use and there's equivalent grease on the automotive side that are a quarter of the cost like premium moly lithium complex greases that handle heavy pressures, heat, and prevent seizure and corrosion. Also aircraft greases have to be compatible with numerous metals and other materials when in firearms your basically dealing with steel on steel.--Dieseldog!

AR receivers are aluminum alloy, as per many aircraft parts.

But I can testify to the fact that Aeroshell 33MS has replaced many greases. Aircraft had many different greases in different locations and sometimes very close to each other. The apprentice lubing the aircraft would often put the wrong grease in the wrong spot needing that part to be completely disassembled and cleaned as the greases are not compatible when mixed together. This would of course add to inspection times and downtimes and stress to the AME having to answer "When is the aircraft going to be ready?".

I was surprised, and pleased when reviewing the AMM to see that 33MS had replaced the multitude of greases previously used. It is not used in wheel bearings however.
