Question about 45-70

Yeah...with a correction of "Add 40, left 30" from a spotter with a radio.

Not exactly the same thing as hitting your target on the first shot by yourself.

Ever been to a black powder silhouette shoot? Shooters get "sighting shots" that are called by spotters. When a shooter is satisfied he (or she) starts the run on the chickens, turkeys, pigs, or rams. Sighting shots are needed because atmospheric conditions vary from day to day and those have to be compensated for. A big bore B.P. gun sighted in and shooting perfectly one day may be a few inches or feet off the next because of atmospheric variables.

Not requiring a holdover of 240 Feet.

At 500 meter sight zero the highest point of the bullets flight is some 85" over the line of sight.
At 100 metre zero the drop at 500 meters is over 250" inches.
so you wouldn't be holding over 240 feet....

Range of 45-70

200 yds in hunting, max. My 1898 Springfield manual quotes 3300 yards extreme range for the 500 gr. service load. 2" penetration in sand at that distance.:D

i have a CB marlin in 45/70 with a 26 in barrel. I keep it sighted in at 100 and it drops arounf 2.5 in at 200 for me. MY numbers arnt matching up with the others, but it consitantly shoots that for me.

Wow! That is much flatter than my 35 Remington that is zeroed at 150 yards and drops 5 inches by 200 yards. (MV of 2250 fps and 200 grain bullet.)
