Question about 870 cantilever barrel

I was looking at the trio 870 deal at Lebaron.

The cantilever on the deer barrel appears to be bolted on. Are all 870 cantilever deer barrels made like this? I assume this is just 2 more bolts that may loosen and affect accuracy? Wondering if this is a cost saving thing by Remmy or what.

It was a new barrel. It is a 3 barrel deal Lebaron is selling. It is the cantilever barrel with two bolts where the cantilever meets the actual barrel? Struck me as really odd and made me decide to not purchase it at that time.

I believe the pin to receiver is something else.

Remington has had at least three cantilever styles/versions over the years. The first generation had a visible gap between the the front, center and rear barrel mounting surfaces. The one you mention would be the second generation, I believe. There should actually be a piece/mount soldered to the barrel and then the cantilever is screwed down to that part. There is nothing wrong with the system, Remington recently went to a one piece cantilever soldered to the barrel to save time and cut costs compared to the older multi piece systems.

I would say it's possible that Remington has made these 3 barrel 870 combos by using old barrel inventories...it's more profitable than sending them back to the smelter!

Even if it was screws that hold it down, that is what blue or red loctite is for.

Like really the scope is held on with screws too...

I have the older version with the metal and screws holding the cantilever part to the barrel mount.I use it for turkey hunting only and have had it for about fourteen years and have never had any problems with holding zero.The older system is heavier than what the new one would be (my opinion only).Mine is a 1187 so weight is heavy any ways.If you want to scope your shot gun that is the way to go because the scope stays on barrel if you want to switch to other barrel.

No choke. Fully rifled barrel for sabot slugs

^obviously the barrel with cantilever mount is FR, my question goes to the OP, he mentionned looking at the 870 TRIO from lebaron, what i meant to ask is if the other barrels have a fixed or screw in chokes.... Im guessing fixed, right?

Nope. The other two barrels one a turkey and one a field barrel have screw in chokes.

True enough when you put it that way. I was more concerned that it gives me two more possible "weak links".

They offer a cantilever barrel with screw-in chokes as well on their turkey guns...apparently some folks need a scope in order to place a 15" pattern of bird shot on a 2" target at 25 yds!!! LOL!
