Question about 9mm range ammo

Hello I'm not sure if this is the right place but earlier this year i got my first restricted weapon which was a Beretta 92FS. I went on Canada Ammo's site and ordered 1000 rounds of Norinco 9mm ammo for about the going rate (wasn't cheap but wasn't expensive).

This past sunday i finally went to the range and man was i disapointed. I'm not a marksmen but I was like what the hell at 10 yards i wasn't anywhere near on target. After shooting some more and more i got slightly better. but then i had some winchester white box ammo and I put in a couple mags worth of that and it was night and day difference of being on target.

So i'm curious I looked around at companies like american eagle, MFS, S&B and winchester which seem to be the ammo that's available in canada around the same price. When i looked for reviews I saw a lot of "i had X amount of fail to fires or fail to eject".

I was curious what are peoples thought on good ammo for going to the range and just having some fun but still wanting to hit the broad side of a barn.
 
I bought 1000 rnds Wolf 124gr TMJ 9mm from SFRC for my 1st restricted a 9mm Ruger Sr9. Through about 250 and no failures, appears more accurate than I am. Ordered another 1000 of 124gr TMJ HP's to try out.
 
While i dont shoot 9mm , i cant comment on the norinco ammo , but 40sw for me has been great in S&B , American eagle was great stuff , federal champion was good stuff , winchester white box , winchester win clean .

PMC 9mm is suppose to be great stuff from what ive read .

im pretty sure that norinco is going to be surplus .
 
thanks guys the more feedback the better. the Norinco is non-corossive and wasn't sold as surplus (seemed rather clean to be super old leftovers).

Sounds like i should probably get a couple boxes of various stuff to see what feeds and shoots well. I was thinking american eagle but i saw a couple not so great reviews but i guess it always depends on the caliber and gr and of course sometimes just bad luck :)
 
you have to find out what your pistol likes,,,,,simple as that,,,,not all ammo will work,,might be good stuff, might be cheap stuff

buy small amounts until you see what works best

also if it's your first handgun, you might need practice, guidance

are your shots all over the place, or is there a pattern to the shots placed

all kinds of things can account for your shots being all over the place
 
it is my first handgun however i went with a friend who is experienced in IPSC and very experienced shooter and without even asking him he said he noticed the norinco stuff seemed all over the place.

the winchester white box was pretty consistent groups for both of us where Norinco wasn't in a tight pattern, more like random crapola.

Norinco specification: must efficiently dispatch Falun Gong and other dissidents at point blank range. CHECK.

Try some different ammo.
