I'll soon be purchasing a scope for a new 22Lr that is coming my way.
I'll only be shooting using a rest and rear bag.
I'll be shooting 50 and 100yds.
Just for fun and maybe a little friendly competition with a few buds.
I thought a Leupold VXll 6 x 18 x 40 with AO would be a nice choice.
As I read and learn,it seems a lot of BR shooters are using fixed scopes,
rather than variable scopes.
A lot of them seem to be in the 36x range.
I see that the Weaver T36 is popular and is not outrageously priced.
Why do you want a fixed scope over a variable and why 36X.

The higher power scope enables better target definition. If you are shooting off a rest and bags only you will probably find you won't use the lower power
settings of a variable. It will also depend on the weight of your rifle/scope
combined. Even off of a rest sporting weight rifles can be twitchy, whereas
a heavier rifle intended for bench rest or target rifles with more weight tend to be more stable. It all depends on what your end use is going to be - and
then decide relative to ability and experience. The T36 Weaver is an excellent scope - used a lot in the BR discipline.
Discussion with individuals already involved in a discipline gives a lot of insight - ask those at your club what they use and visit an event or two.

Yes, where to buy??

I have been looking into getting a BR scope for my 22 as well. I have a 3-9 x 36 Leopold for regular use but I want a higher magnification scope for pure target shooting, (quick detach Talley rings enable zero to be kept when switching between scopes). The Weaver T24 or T36 was what I had in mind.

I had hoped to come across a used one at a gun show but no luck so far, so I may need to buy new.

The 6mm BR site reviews the T36,

http://www.6mmbr.com/optics.html

Thought most of the other reviewed scopes are to costly, they also mention the Sightron Target fixed 36 power.

Either way I am guessing that it would be a special order unless someone knows of a Weaver or Sightron dealer in Canada that would have keep a fixed power target scope in stock???

Just got a brand new Weaver T24 yesterday; fine crosshair with 1/8 MOA dot.

Looks like it just might be the ticket for a back-up on a F-Class rig or a great option for a 22 lr.

I currently have the Weaver T24 on a Brno #4 it is a good all round target scope that lets me do what I want from 25-200yrds. The higher the magnification the greater the problems you will have with mirage. If you have not looked through a 36X I would try checking one out first before buying as the limited field of view and the increase mirage can be difficult to get used to.
I also have the 1/8 dot 1/8 clicks and like the current set up.

The rimfire competitors in the states that shoot ARA RBA or 50/50 use 36, 45 and 60 power for hold over and to read the mirage. They score differently; if you hit the ring you get the lower value.

Here is their ARA target and what I am talking about
