Question about a reduced .270 win load....

So I got a bunch of .270 shells from a fellow shooter.

5 boxes of 90 grain Sierra hollow points over 50 grains of 3031 powder - should be good, I think they will see some Ground hogs....

But, there are 5 boxes of 138 grain lead round nose bullets loaded with 15 grains of SR 4759 powder???
I have never seen lead bullets in .277 cal 138 grain? and have never heard of this powder or this load.
Looked in my reload manual but there is nothing on this...I am assuming they are safe to shoot?

So, should I just shoot them off to get the brass for reloading? Are they any good for anything? Ground hogs maybe?

The 15 gr SR 4759 with 138 gr cast bullet load is a very light load.

The Lyman Reloading Handbook lists 24 grs of SR 4759 with a 124 gr cast bullet as a starting load. MAX = 32 grs.

Go ahead and shoot some groundhogs.
 
From my sierra manual.
130gr bullet sr4759(reduced load) Start charge 20.0gr 1651 fps max charge 24gr 1998 fps
150gr bullet sr4759(reduced load) Start charge 22gr 1655 fps max charge 26gr 1957fps.

Take that as you wish. 15gr seems really light though
 
I use 15 grains of SR 4759 with 90 gr. Sierra HPs for small game, turns a 270 into a 25/20.
Your lead bullet load should be good for anything you don't want to turn into a red mist with your 270.
