I just got an aftermarket +2 extension from SnJ for my 870 Tactical.
It came with a new follower and spring, but the spring is about 3 inches shorter than the factory one from the 870 Tactical, and the last coil at one end of the spring doesnt wrap all the way around flat like the 870. Almost like they accidentally cut it too short.

Is this normal? Emailed them, but no reply yet.

Should I just use the old spring?

Thanks.

Open on one end is totally normal. put that end in the extension, the complete coil end on the follower.

Confirmed that the new spring is shorter than the original spring, not the other way around? I'm with dogzilla, I'd use the longer of the two as long as you can get your full mag capacity with it. Maybe that's it, actually: Is that S&J follower significantly longer than the original Rem part? You might have to use a slightly shorter spring due to stack height with a longer follower in order to get the full capacity. (check it with 3" shells, unless you're going to use 2 3/4 exclusively)

Yep, the new one is the shorter of the two.

Not signifigantly longer, no. About half inch if I remember correctly. And to be fair, the extension itself is maybe another half inch shorter than factory, but I just figured the new spring was still a fair bit short.

Not a huge issue, but I haven't done a whole lot of customizing, so I figured I'd see what everyone thought.

Thanks, gents.
