I want to mount an eotech holographic with a fts magnifier on a .22.

It's a tactical set up and I mosty want to do it for looks and some what function.

Obviously I don't want to spend $1100 on a optics setup for a 10/22. So I was looking at some of the airsoft copies

Just wondering it anyone has any experience with these? Will they handle a .22? What about a .223? Are they absolute junk?

Thanks again in advance

As much as I hate to admit it I put a totally 100% fake Aimpoint on a variety of rifles and it worked just fine - practically speaking as good as my Aimpoint Pro. I once had a 100% fake Leupold 3.5-10 and it worked perfectly on ( of all things ) a M14 ! BUT I've had other Chinese stuff that completely fell apart - it really is buyer beware but so long as you are not paying for something real only to find out it is fake it can be a fun adventure. Don't risk your life on one ( or, in our case, spoil a good range day or hunt ) but for 100 - 150 play and have fun.

agree. the days of cheap, poor quality knock-offs out of China have almost disappeared...now they're often just cheap. Some have actually got semi-decent
optics...I doubt they'd stand any actual recoil, but then you're not gong to get any with a .22 anyway. As someone else said, if you aren't counting on it
to make a critical shot...they look real, real good.

I bought an eotech 512 clone for 40$ off amazon about 1000rnds ago on my 10/22. I agree that a 300$ .22 doesn't warrant a 600$ optic. The unit holds zero well and is fairly robust.

As a backyard/range toy no problems.

They must have improved significantly over the past few years if you guys still have a useable optic. Every single airsoft optic I've ever bought with the exception of the Leupold knock off Tomochan mentions was absolute junk. None held zero and some didn't even move the reticle much if at all. None were daytime visible except on very overcast days and then they still washed out. My CZ858 killed an aimpoint knockoff with less than 20 rds. Its a roll of the dice whether it will work new and inevitably will need to be replaced sooner than quality optics. For a good cheap red dot that doesn't suck, I like the Bushnell TRS-25. I tried a Tasco and my 10/22 killed it in under 150 rds. TRS-25 is as cheap as I'll go and its priced competitively with the airsoft junk.

+1 for airsoft and paintball optics, I had a 70$ eotech sit on my old mossberg 715T flat top, it shot good enough to hit cans at 50 or so yards. Just beef up the rifle so that it's heavy enough and the optic will never know the difference, if you were in BC lower mainland I would have even sold you mine for 20 or even 10$. The damn thing doesn't have the one setting though, so be aware of that. I mean be aware that they are cheap and will probably have problems but if you just want something cheap for the time being, then they are definately the way to go.

As long as we're in the cone of silence, I'll fess up too ;).

I ran an airsoft Elcan on my 715t for a couple thousand rounds. It held zero to within ~4 minutes, the gun is far more accurate.
I removed it because of weight, it's as heavy as the rifle is. It also looked a little silly :).

I used to swear by them, even had a Fakepoint T1 Micro last two years, but as everyone predicted, it died. Also had a Fakepoint Comp M4 last about 200 rounds. And as far as rifle scopes are concerned, junk. Had this Deal Extreme illuminated thing with some decent magnification on it that my M14 chewed up and spit out. Yeah, the M14 is rough on scopes, but the red dots were on .22lr rifles, but still failed.

Get something made for actual firearms. If you're looking for an inexpensive red dot, the Bushnell TRS25 is probably your best bet. I have one on my 870 and it handles 3in magnum slugs all day, no problems. For glass, I don't know what to tell you...do you want any magnification or a lot? For a little magnification, try the Bushnell AR Optics line....decent price that won't break the bank.

Like I said, I used to swear by airsoft kit for real steel, even used to go around here preaching about how awesome and inexpensive they were, but eventually I realized they were not suitable for real firearms, just as everyone here told me.
