I got the Lee Challenger press for xmas and I've been unable to set it up yet. There isn't enough clearance for the lever to slid in between the two toggles (correct term for the parts?). I'm assuming that I have to remove one, or both of the black C clips in order to separate the toggles far enough to slid the lever in and then replace the C clips??? Sorry for the newbie question but the instructions don't mention anything and I'd hate to accidentally break a C clip on it's first day out of the box haha. Thanks!

I don't think I had remove anything, but I set mine up a couple of years go, so don't remember....

But if you remove the bolt the lever will go right in or you might me able to slip it in.

The toggle is backwards. It should be facing the lever.

I removed the bolt and no luck... the lever arm is still too thick to slide into the hole between the toggles. I'm not exactly sure what RePete meant by the toggle being backwards??? I suppose I'll have to find/buy a pair of plyers tomorrow to take off the C clips in order to get the lever into the toggles so I can start using this thing!

The Lee press that's in your picture isn't the same one that I pulled out of the box, I can't even find my press on the Lee website. I can find lots of references to my press online, most of them examples of broken Toggle Clamp halves hahaha (after a long lifetime). I just suppose I'm going to have to go ahead and take the C clips off.

I'll definitely e-mail Lee and see what I can do about getting the toggle clamps exchanged. This was supposed to be ordered "new" but I guess it has been sitting in a store room somewhere for awhile. I managed to get the lever in after I took off one of the c clips. I was amazed at how far it flew across the room when it came off! Thanks for the help guys!
