Question about barrel guide pin for Browning Nomad/Challenger/Medalist

Hi all,

I was field stripping a new-to-me Browning Medalist 22lr, and while cleaning the barrel, the barrel guide pin fell out.

I was able to reinsert the pin and reassemble the pistol, but wanted to confirm if the pin is supposed to be free to rotate and come out. There is a stake mark beside the hole on the left side of the barrel, but I'm uncertain if that stake is supposed to hold the pin tightly (rotationally and laterally), or just prevent it from being pushed out the left side.

My suspicion is that the pin is supposed to have some degree of rotational freedom to allow it to orient the pin flats square against the receiver slot when the barrel retention screw is tightened down.
