So I had a question about the BC LEH Okanagan Age Restricted Hunt (bottom left corner of page 13 in the synopsis from last year.) It says "The following hunts are open ONLY to hunters who are under the age of 18 and WHO POSSESS A VALID FWID AND HAVE AN ACTIVE HUNTING CREDENTIAL."

My daughter turned 10 this past September. Some looking online seems to indicate that she needs to have passed her CORE to be able to get an active hunting credential - that is, she can't apply for LEH without first passing her CORE.

I just wanted to double check with people here to make sure I am reading things correctly, thanks to Covid getting her CORE done isn't exactly an easy undertaking right this moment and I'm thinking that might prevent her from applying for the 2021 LEH.

Thanks!

Yes, you're correct, core is required to apply for those hunts. My son got one 3 years in a row due to the low numbers of people applying in my area. Was an easy tag to fill, 45 minutes from home to deer down on the ground. He's now 19 and can't apply any more.

I did notice the odds are stupidly good for those hunts - except 8-15 for some reason? its like 21:1, while the rest are basically all better than 5:1, with a few being better than 1:1 odds.

At any rate, thanks for the info!

I'm assuming nobody knows of anywhere running CORE courses in the Lower Mainland right now, I figure the indoor gathering restrictions due to Covid pretty much eliminate any possibility of running the courses for at least another week or two?

Edit - I now see that the course is now online and 12 of the 47 lessons are available for free. I'm going to sit down with my daughter this weekend and see how she does on the free stuff. (she will still need to write the test in person).
