How can a poster have zero posts on CGN but a trader rating of 5? I mean - I guess you can never post and just buy stuff, but that seems weird.

WTF?

Does the trader rating work? Or can anyone give you a good rating regardless... Is there any truth to it or can I just go to my CGN friends and give them all good ratings?

I have always looked to the trader rating as a rough guideline for how the person is in buying/selling. Now I am thinking differently.

Posts in the EE and Off Topic don't count towards your total count. Probably some other forums too.

Yes - you can give feedback to anyone. Caveat Emptor as always.

There are some members on here that have no interests in posting but just want to buy and sell. Judging a members post count should never be confused with there trader rating. And yes, you can get a bunch of friends to "help" you with your trader rating if you want to be sneaky about it.

Now saying that, someone that has been on CGN for years with a post count of 1,000 or more does give them a bit of trust but I recommend that dealing with them with caution.

Trust is always earned, never given...

When you buy on-line, there is always a risk. Whether it be Ebay or CGN.

It is always buyer beware. Ebay is a crapshoot, but I am still ahead.

However, CGN members are pretty good and honest sellers or buyers. Haven't had a problem in maybe 40 deals, although my feedback doesn't reflect that many. I will continue doing business but CGNners. I have met a few seller/buyers through face-to-face transactions and all are great guys to deal with.

As with anything in life, proceed with caution and prudence and trust your gut. Most people in the world are good, so while you may come across a few bad apples once in a while, don't let those few rotten apples let you miss out on the many good ones.

Well even look at yourself, you have only 23 posts but trader rating of 12? Someone must have dealt with you when you had even less posts...you didn't rip them off lol, yes it does give some indication, but as stated above when ever you are trading online always use caution.

Right - o. I know that posting and your trader rating are different. I'm not saying I distrust people who don't post. And yes, when I made my first buy I had a big zero beside my name and was glad someone trusted me.

But I just don't like the idea of someone getting "feedback" from their friends when no sale has occured. I think in that sense the trader rating is less valuable here than on something like ebay (which you can still "pad" but it is much harder).

Which is weird because I buy bigger ticket items on CGN.

I personally have never had a problem here on CGN. The forum seems to work well for buying and selling (for me at least).

Just my 2 cents...
