my view it will work on the barrel and cause strain on it, also, screwing your mpi at distance, I think a float tube would be a way to avoid this as the NRA shooters down south seem to swear by them

As for it being allowed in a PWT3, It is allowed and so is resting your mag on the ground in the prone

I was told it would move your mpi but if you use it for standing and you only shoot standing at 100........I see your point
Slings are allowed in CFSAC and NSCC.
Most of the army guys are using other gear (vests or webbing) as stabalization aids I think - probably why a hasty sling hold has gone out of favour -that and it marrys the shooter up with the gun pretty tight if done right, so if there are IAs or mag changes to be done, it will slow you up.
I use a hasty sling hold with a floated front end and mag change with the trigger hand in SR competitions - it does help.

OK, I was just wondering. I was thinking thats what i would do when I finally join. Unfortunately the ROTP is so competitive, oh well, try again next year after some schooling to bump up my grades, and a few hundred pushsups, sit ups, and km's run to bump down my weight lol.

C7 shooting in the CF is all about gunfighting. I did a PWT in prep for going overseas 2 - 2 1/2 yrs ago, and the range was run by a guy who had run convoys all over Kandahar. His skill at arms and leadership was so highly praised he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. But he had a warrior's tone of voice that kept my attention even without knowing his history.
Shorten the butt. Square your plates to the enemy. The butt goes on the chest close to centre. Elbows under the gun, supporting on the plates. Left hand back on the magazine housing. Both eyes open. Scope for pointing, not for looking. Pop pop. Pop pop. Dump doubtful mags early. Never run dry. Tap Rack Roll Load all mags at the start of the day. Remember which pouch has which number of rounds. There's no one behind to bring mags to the line. Count all shots. No reshoots.
Needless to say, all the careful, calm, BRASS and breathing stuff was left behind in the line. Any attempt to game the qualification was pointless. I did however score possibles on rifle and pistol, so somewhere along the way I was applying all the right skills.

lol they always yell at you to not rest ur mags because they say it causes "feeding issues" yeah right, pressing the magazine up against the rifle to close any gaps and bring things more in line with the mechanism is totally going to cause feeding issues, they just don't want you to be lazy. once you finish your trades course, they could care less about what you do to make yourself comfortable, same goes for the ranges, if it makes u more comfy and gets u a better score, nobody in ur chain of command is going to yell at you or complain.

You might be waiting a while longer than you'd like. I'm in WFT right now and the platoon 2IC told us two weeks ago that the number of troops the CF were looking to recruit has been reached and recruitment will drop significantly. Where the wait times will be back to anywhere between 1-3 years. They dropped 4 platoons in March because of this. And I heard that there was something like 1500 recruits sworn in awaiting BMQ @.@. I know this will affect NCM's a helluva lot more than Occifers, but it probably will still affect yous. Just thought I'd share some "inside" knowledge.

At CFSAC I don't even have a sling on my rifle as I found that the wind catches it and moves my POA. Tensioning the sling will flex the barrel and that is not a good thing. It is litteraly the difference between a freelfoat barrel and one with a monkey pulling on the end with a rope.
Look at the current ratio? 50% of small arms engagments are currently beyond 500m (according to the best research available). And our training for those engagments is......... Gunfighter......sweet.

Recruitment and trade manning is dependent on ....trades.
Certain trades are currently closed. Others are very much open. It depends entirely on the branch requirements and capabilities to train pers.
This isn't inside knowledge either, this is very public knowledge.

Farmboy is right the issued slings are junk. I have a Vickers sling I got from One Shot and it is a great sling for a fighting rifle. It makes life much easier in the field. Still I will not tension it while firing.
You may want to check those stats there Gunner. 50% eh? Not when I was there. Alot inside 300m.
Maple Leaf I know that guy with the MSM. He did a talk for us about leadership in Combat. Good content and to hear it from someone who actually had been there and done that was good as well. I know another fella here that has been a warrior longer than the MSM guy has been in. He doesn't do talks and doesn't flaunt his exploits like other people do. he is a silent proffesional, let me tell ya when a fire fight breaks out I'll take my buddy over MSM guy.
No one take this wrong, the Gentleman that won the MSM is more than rightly deserving of his award. What he did under the conditions he was faced with were outstanding and rightly so got his award. Just a personal thing.
