Question About Collapsible stocks

Hi guys, First time poster here. Iv been lurking around for a wile and wanted to ask a question about Collapsible Stocks,

So recently i just bought my first Shotgun *Very happy about it!*, But i decided to pick up a Remington 870 Express, with a 7 round mag and synthetic stock from factory.

I absolutely love it! but im not a big fan of the synthetic stock that comes with it, So iv set my self out to find a Collapsible replacement stock. Iv been looking at the m4/Ar-15 style that company's like Knoxx and Blackhawk! sell.

What im wondering, is if i were to perches one of these stocks, could i remove the plastic stock part from the buffer tube, and slide on another stock. Say one by Magpul?

Or another style Stock, I know there are 2 sizes of buffer tubes, Commercial and Military? But is this some thing that would be easy to do?

although im not sure why you would even want to?
the main beneft of a Knoxx stock on an 870 is its recoil reduction system - which is both housed in the grip and their buffer tube. you cant replace the buffer tube.

there are some adapters from FAB, Mesa, Arms Tech, etc that allow you to screw on a standard AR buffer and use whatever AR stock you want... but beware: many put the stock at an awkward angle and you will lose even more functionality with them. with the Magpul stock you listed the cost will also skyrocket, youll be spending well over $400 just for the stock, adapter, tube, grip.

IMHO just get a Knoxx stock and leave it as-is. i highly recommend the proper SpecOps and not the 'NRS' version that offers no recoil suppression.
 
Humm I do see the argument towards going to the Knoxx Stock, I just found this company, Mesa Tactical, and they make a an adapter that fits an 870, http://www.gptactical.com/c378025057p17485877.2.html

Then correct me if Im wrong I would just need a Millspec Buffer tube and the stock and it should all screw in and mount up?

http://www.mesatactical.com/index.php?id=55 They also make a Recoil Buffer tube that is suppose to remove 70% of felt recoil. I think that when you install the tube you can allign it on the adapter so the stock is vertical? then again im still new to this.

I may end up just going with the Knoxx stock in the end, but for sake of argument,

+ Magpul UBR stock $265
+ Magpul grip ~$35
+ the Mesa adapter ~$60
=$500 US

the above are US prices, no exchange rate, no shipping, no taxes and no duties. itll be more getting them in/into Canada. (just the Magpul UBR alone usually costs over $400 in Canada.)

you really want to spend that much just to mount the Magpul UBR stock on your 870 Express? :D

i mean it looks cool, but this setup wont even function as well as a $150 Knoxx stock in terms of reducing recoil. not trying to rain on your parade, just trying to save you a lot of money. if you have money to burn, go for it though dont let me dissuade you :D
 
I dont know I love my knoxx Spec-ops stock and I paid less that $150 shipped! Looks great and functions even better. I can shoot slugs all day with it no problems. With the factory stock my shoulder was getting sore after just a few.
 
I have the Knoxx NRS stock on my Grizzly and it works well and fit perfectly. It doesn't reduce recoil like the Spec-ops one, but I normally only shoot about 25-50 rounds at the range anyhow.
