Hi Gentlemen
I have a Colt that I love but the previous owner abused it and didn't put the appropriate recoil spring in it.

My lower frame is cracked and needs some extensive repairs to safely fire it.

Can I use the Upper of a 1911 A1 Colt Gold Cup Series 80 on a 1911 A1 Norinco 45 frame?

Or is there a reliable gunsmith that can repair it?

Thanks
Al

I have seen this same scenario before; colt slid on Nork frame. Likely will work.

Norinco 1911s are Series 70, and a Colt Series 80 slide would need to have the firing pin block removed in order to fire. So it's not exactly plug and play.

Might slide on, but the fitment might not be correct. Also with Chinese rail steel is probably much harder than the steel Colt used. So you will wear down the slide.

Should send it to a smith anyways. Nobody wants a 1911 that rattles worst than a CF Inglish HP.

Colt and other's make a part that replaces the firing pin block after you remove it so you can use the slide on an ordinary frame
To bad Colt isn't still around, because you could have sent the old frame and they would have made you a new one with the same number
I did that with an AR15 Colt lower, took two months decade's ago

I put a stainless Government 80series slide on a Nork frame put a block in the slide used the 80 pin ramped the Nork frame for a STI Wilson ramped 40 cal barrel milled the slide for Bomar sights . Great conversion runs with all of my high dollar 1911 guns. My only regret is that I didn't buy more Norc frames when they avaiable for not much money. The slide and frame were a tight fit not much work required on my parts. Also did the same on a 38 super and a 45 with a Norc frame.

Used one with my Ace upper, and yes it worked well. - dan
