Question about Cowboy Shooting - Indian Targets?

Lol... The point isn't to teach history... It's to shoot old style guns and dress up all fancy-like.

Not according to southwestmaddog...who is right, you or him?

Either fantasy or reality, fact remains that there is still a target that represents one ethnicity...

Seems to me that fun can still be had by dressing up all old timey and shooting targets that don't include "indians". Why not a cactus? Bottle of hooch? Armadillo?

I wasn't trying to imply that people weren't having fun, clearly they are. Kind of hard not to read anything into it when there are targets of only one specific racial group. What if the targets were "Ukranians", "blacks" or "Jews"?

OMG imagine that!

You are so right... action targets should only ever be of white men of Anglo-Saxon descent and above the age of majority.

What if they used mixed race zombie targets instead? Would that be up to your pious standards troll?

I am simply saying, does a shooting target need to represent any ethnicity to prove marksmanship? In my area, you can't buy an "indian" or "anglo saxon" target.

I think your over reacting ... I would have no problem with someone shooting a scottish silhouette ... Christ if someone wants to ill wear the damned kilt to make the things... What's next you see the ipsc targets as racist against brown people ... Don't shoot the white shoot the brown? You really have nothing better to do then to complain about this?

Do all Scots feel that way? I have no problem with the color of targets unless they are intended to represent a particular race...

I was looking for clarification on the principle behind using "Indians" as targets...As mentioned previously, I wasn't aware of any other race that is used in this manner.

I'm of German decent... to some the fig.11 target is "Herman the German" or " The Hun". To others it's "Ivan".
To me it was always just a piece of paper to put 7.62mm diameter holes in.
(My time was a little pre-C7.... You know, back when the CF used a true battle rifle ;-)

Right or wrong... I'll give the cowboy shooters credit for not letting others decide for them what targets they can use.

I didnt know that about the figure 11 target. FWIW Google image search doesn't seem to show any Indian or german targets...

I am sure people are going to shoot at what they wish. So be it...

If you insist so much on being politically correct, you should stop calling them indians, I heard some find it offensive ;)
Exactly, there's no more to it!

This thread should have ended right here. Nothing funnier than seeing someone stick up for others 'rights', but be politically incorrect in doing so.
Great catch.
