Question about crown land and hunting and target shooting

One remaining detail - some crown land plots, and woodlots, are leased to hunt camps - you'd best steer clear of them, regardless of legality. Sounds like your busting to let some lead fly, so go at it, and make sure you dont give the rest of us some bad exposure.

i was just reading the regulations............if you dont know the area,s you will be shooting in....i would highly advise you not to go blasting in them... as all townships have there rules and regulations as to fire arm discharge...and from what i read .......they ar writen by the same arse that wrote the gun registry law,s
...so even though i know of the area...... i find the way bylaws are writen.... you could land your self in hot water...
take the offers given to you from other members here to use there ranges... keep an eye on the events and gathering forum... for a blast off of some kind or other....... sorry i could not have been more help

No, but you can hit up any crown land with a few exceptions, and fire away. It's that simple. Even leased crown, all it takes is a phone call to the lessee to tell him/her when you'll be there and your good to go. He/she can't tell you no, unless he/she has restrictions on the lease, which is very rare. Safety and common sense need to be considered of course.
Well - Here in Ont, if you start blasting way on someone elses hunt camp lease, you're likely to get a creased forehead, legalities aside. Cereal is an adult (hopefully) - he can do as he pleases... Having been a member of a range for several years, I've found it to be very beneficial - I learned alot, and met my hunt camp connections - not an easy thing to do, as many know...
Well I just read the by-law for discharging a firearm in the Kawartha Lakes District.
Basically I can shoot anywhere except:
- any waste disposal site
- Any Parkland
- Digby township dump site
- Any areas designed within the applicable plan as Urban
- Any areas designed within the applicable plan as Hamlet
It's about 30 minutes east of Brechin and 30 minutes west of Coboconk. I looked at it with satelite photo's and it seems to be clear of anything where I plan on going.
Again, I would love to join a range but I am not nor can I afford $1000 for the first year to shot once a month.

post your club fees for cereal to see...or at least send him a pm to invite to your clubs...Gas to the range wich is about 25 km away each way and would be about $10 there and back

Why is everybody trying to talk me out of it and pay $1000 to go to a range? Is there something wrong with doing this? I though it was ok and it seems to be legal so I dunno

let me assure you......... im in no way trying to talk you out of it........ in fact....... i do not belong to a range...but for what it worth to you... lets say you spend about$ 20.00 amonth on gas to shoot in area,s you dont know.. now times thatper year. on a one time per month... 20x12+$240.00.. a range would be a better option to me........
Cereal - The 1000$ figure is extreme. Our range, part of the Fish and Game Club, charges 40$ annually, plus another 35$ for insurance. Surely there are some more reasonably priced ranges around - check the local fish and game clubs. What about the range near Epps (Orrillia)? Its about the same distance from Brechin as the plot of land you are looking at.
The reason we are pushing you toward a range are:
- you are young, and inexperienced with firearms.
- there are a lot of folk in the country that dont take kindly to "highwaymen"
- you would probably prefer to expire from old age than a gunshot wound.

FWIW
i use crown land most of the time for plinking or sighting in my rifles and have never had a problem just make sure its legal for you to be there and if there is domestic animals grazing find another chunk further up the line
slightly off topic can any ontario folks explain the hydro cuts to me back home hydro cuts are public but when i moved here to ontario i found out by visit of leo that hydro cuts are private land and not allowed to be used by general public what gives with this ?

They never informed anyone or made it public... are you in the City of Kawartha Lakes?
There has been very little uproar about this and there should be.
