Question about crown land and hunting and target shooting

Gas to the range wich is about 25 km away each way and would be about $10 there and back

Gas to this crown land is 35 km away each way and would probably be about $15

I also have friends who would like to shoot and thats why crown land is a good option imo.

Why is everybody trying to talk me out of it and pay $1000 to go to a range? Is there something wrong with doing this? I though it was ok and it seems to be legal so I dunno

I live probably right down the street from you. I know, on our side of the lake it is frustrating.

I ended up joining Alliston District Sportsmans Club. It's around $200 a year and you have to put in time cleaning and building up the ranges, but we have a 200 yard rifle and a restricted pistol, both outdoors. The only drawback is the rifle range is..like...the other side of friggin Camp Borden so it's an hour drive to and from.

I am looking for some crown land to shoot on too, but if we are gonna do it, lets look for something big, like 300-400. I am waiting to buy my 308, and once I get some instruction at the ADSC rifle range from my peers, I would be happy to help you figure out if it's OK and talk to the people we need to talk to to get clearance.

In my experience, paperwork is your best defence. Get documentation from everyone you can when they say its OK to shoot there, the lessor, the owner, the police the goverment whatever.

The City of Kawartha Lakes passed a bylaw in December of last year that makes it illegal to discharge a firearm for any purpose except for hunting.
They never informed anyone or made it public... are you in the City of Kawartha Lakes?
There has been very little uproar about this and there should be.

Are you sure? They faxed me a paper yesterday with the by-laws and it pretty much said "target shooting" was ok except in a few areas mentioned above (ie: garbage dump, urban areas" and near Bexbee or some town with a similar name and also near hwy 503.

From what I understood, it is perfectly legal to shoot there.

I was thinking of join Alliston but it is so far from me. It's nice and cheap but so far.

I have paperwork from the bylaw office but thats about it. I called the MNR and they said to contact the By-law office in the area I wanted to shoot.

I was looking at Satelite photos and where I plan to shoot, well It seems to have about 5 KM's on clear open field but it also has nice forested area. It seems like a decent place but I will find out tomorrow for sure. I might even take a few pics

Bah, I should have taken up paint balling instead. Cheaper and no questions on where or where I can't discharge it

:(

Pictures would be awesome thanks! 5KM sounds like more than enough if there is no one else on it. You might be onto something for us!

Cheer up. Once you are out there it makes up fo all the BS :)

Yeah I will bring along my camera and take some pics.

Hopefully it will be fun and I hope nothing bad happens

Yeah, I will upload the peice of paper tonight so for those who care can read it. I might be reading it wrong or misunderstanding it. It would really suck if I go shooting and they said I can only shoot for hunting purposes.

Thanks

Well I am off tomorrow to have some fun. Wish me luck :)

I re-read the by-laws and it seems as of April 11th 2006, I can target shoot with a rifle and before I couldn't so I think I am in the clean :)
