question about having a non-hunter tag along?

I'm writing my Hunter Safety exam next week, and my girlfriend has expressed interest in coming hunting with me. She has no PAL and no hunting license, and obviously would not be carrying a firearm.

Would I have any explaining to do if stopped by a CO in that situation?

What if she was to shoot a grouse or rabbit? Is that illegal because she has no hunting license (even though she'd be directly supervised by me, and the game would go under my bag limits)?

I'm in Nova Scotia.

Thanks a bunch.

Hunting regulations are under provincial jurisdiction, so they vary between provinces. Read the Nova Scotia hunting regulations. If you have any questions after that, call the local office of your conservations officers and ask them. They are the ones who are going to enforce the regulations in your province and "some guys on the internet said it's o.k. if..." has never been known to have persuaded a conservation officer that he was wrong.

You need to check with the Nova Scotia authorities, but in most provinces, she would be guilty of hunting without a license.

well to split hairs further...
If you both where stopped and the CO asks what she is doing and she happens to say" she is hunting with You"
She has some serious explaining to do.
Check your local Regs and the Re read them again.

This is all as I suspected, although I did plan on verifying with the DNR after I write my exam.

Thanks for the help.

edit: re-reading my original post, I realize it appears as if we were planning on her actually taking some game and me passing it off as my own to avoid the law - this is absolutely not what was planned; it was more a theoretical question out of curiosity than anything. Rest assured she won't be handling a firearm in the bush during hunting season until she's got her own damn license!

"...Is that illegal..." Yep. Her coming along isn't in most places. She doesn't need a PAL as long as she's under your direct and immediate supervision. You may want to choose your words carefully when you tell her that. snicker.
